Hi everyone :)

What is your experience with drooling cats? I know dogs drool, but I've never heard of a cat drooling.

The reason I ask is because I saw Boots drooling today when he jumped up on my bed to say good morning. Not a steady stream, just a few little drops on the blanket.

From what I'm reading, cats can drool when they're really happy, which Boots usually is when he jumps on the bed first thing in the morning (his favorite squishy purple blanket is up there :lol3:) But otherwise, only cats that are sick and/or not feeling well drool. He seems to be totally normal otherwise. Eating, drinking, running around, wrestling Kramer, exploring things, etc.

What does TCS say? Does this sudden onset of drooling warrant a check-up? He's only 6 months old, btw.

TIA for the advice. :D

Hey,

I don't think this is a problem, one of my cats drools when she's on my lap and i'm petting her. She always does this when she's happy.

I've seen a lot of other cats do this too. Usually you get a few drops of clear water-like fluid.

If the cat is happy and otherwise not in any distress or doesn't seem to have any problems, it should not be a problems, and it's just happy drools.

If you do worry about it, you can take him to the vet to check up just in case.

I was going to suggest a trip to the vet just to have his mouth looked at, then you noted he's only 6 months old. I would attribute the drooling to happiness at that age. If everything else is normal, I wouldn't worry too much.

Oh yeah, that reminds me of a cat my grandma had, he got into an accident, and because of it, his jaw was permanantly crooked, meaning he couldn't close it completely, so he drooled all the time.

What i'm saying is that, if he weren't so young, it could indeed be a mouth problem, i hadn't thought of that :p

Jamie is a real drooler when he's cuddling on my shoulder, so much so that he gets me all wet. If Boots only does it when he's giving/receiving affection, I wouldn't worry about it.

At 6 months old, it's likely happy drool, or teething.

My oldest drools when she purrs, every time she purrs, it's cute, unless she's nuzzled into my neck, or on my pillow (which is not allowed!) and drooling in my ear canal.

My senior cat (16) sometimes drools when he has excess stomach acid built up.  We have to give him Pepcid AC twice a day to prevent that.  So...drooling can be a sign that something is wrong, or it can be a sign of happiness.  I'm guessing your little guy may be teething, though, since he's 6 months.
