My kitten hates one person in particular?

Hello!  I'm new here, seeking some thoughts about odd behavior from my cat that came out of nowhere.  I have two kittens, they're about 10 months old now and I've had them since they were 4 weeks old.  They were abandoned kittens.  They're very friendly and get along with everyone they've met....except for one kitten with one person.  The cat's name is Alice and she absolutely hates my older sister.  My sister doesn't come and visit me often and she's only seen the cats 3 times.  The first time was in the first week I got them and they were totally fine with her.

The 2nd time, they were probably about 8 weeks old and my sister tried to kneel down and pet Alice and she hissed at her.  My sister left her alone the rest of the time.  Mind you, my sister has two cats of her own, but Alice is totally fine with her husband who was also there.

The 3rd time happened this past weekend over the holiday.  My sister's husband held his hand out to Alice, she sniffed it.  And when my sister tried to pet her, Alice jumped up on her feet, hissed at her with puffy tail and everything.  She jumped off the bed and approached my sister, hissing.  My sister hurried out of the room and Alice followed her the entire way, hissing until I grabbed her at the top of the stairs and put her back in the bedroom and shut the door.  x.x

My older sister absolutely loves cats.  She and her husband has two cats and she takes great care of them and is very nice and friendly and would never, ever hurt a cat.  She was the one I always went to for advice when I had first gotten my kittens.  I just don't understand why Alice hates her so much to the point where we honestly thought she was going to attack.  I'd love for them to get along, because my sister probably won't ever come and visit me cause she is actually kind of scared of Alice now.  x.x

Any advice?

I would just shut Alice in the bedroom when your sister visits. Sometimes cats take a dislike to someone for no particular reason. Can't explain it, can't control it, all you can do is roll your eyes at the weirdness of cats laughing02.gif. If your sister isn't around too often it shouldn't be too hard to keep them separated.

It could be a smell Alice finds offensive. Does your sister wear strong perfume, deodorant, or hairspray?

If you want them to be friends, here's what I'd do:

I'd have your sister remove all those smells. I'd have her (yeah, brace yourself) rub her hands in a dirty shirt of yours and then put on one of your dirty shirts. I'd also have her bring something Alice really likes (a specific stinky food) and feed her.

There is something about your sister's smell or mannerisms that upset Alice. It could be any of a hundred different things....cats are weird. Like others have said, just put Alice up when your sister comes over, easy peasy.

My thoughts went where the others went - there is something about your sister's smell that doesn't settle well with Alice. It could be as simple as her shampoo.

This may sound really weird, but dab a little of vanilla extract on Alice before your sister comes to visit, and ask your sister to dab a little on herself (on her hands, wrist, etc). If they smell the same, Alice should remain calm. It's worth a try.
