I have to agree on that tag - just too much of a coincidence here. agree.gif But GREAT news things are firming up! flail.gif

Don't know if you'll bother with the slippery elm or not, but Dr. Cheng recommended 1/4 teaspoon mixed with 1/4 aloe vera juice. Let it gel, mix with food. Chum weighed about 12 pounds at the time, and his dose is 2x per day. He's been on it over a year - and doing great. Never a poop problem (since diarrhea he arrived with was fixed), and never a hairball. He also looks great, so I don't think it's interfering in any substantial way with nutrient absorption. dontknow.gif

Day 41 Dinner

Let's start with Miss Lucky, the newest Carnivore of the bunch clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

For Lunch, at around 1pm, Lucky had .85oz of Rad Cat Chicken.
Tonight for Dinner she had about 1.10oz of the same, fora total so far of 3.35oz - It looks like tonight she won't need a 5th meal woohoo.gif
She still needs a lot of topping, but it's alright - momma gives it to her agree.gif

Hope and Bugsy Also had Chicken for Dinner..... Not their favorite meat for sure - they like Turkey and Lamb much better..... But, it is what it is..... They have to eat the chicken too agree.gif
They also both got pumpkin, and everyone started on Prozyme today clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
Bugsy got his extra spoon of water - it helps quite a bit actually - he is finally polishing his plates clean - yep, with lots of halo sprinkling (light sprinkles), just really for the smell, he finished the whole thing clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
Hope on the other hand, left some behind.... Which is alright, as miss Vacuum can afford to do so agree.gif

Bugsy also pooped right in front of me..... He is still straining a bit - so I am glad I am doing the pumpkin agree.gif There is definitely blood around the poop, but not as much to get on his bottom and stain him. There is no mucous anymore either, so whatever was irritating his intestinal tract, apparently is out. The poop is pretty good actually...... It looks to me all the straining made him rupture a little blood vessel or something - as the blood is bright bright red, and he IS still straining frown.gif
Oh Bugsy - You will give me a pHd in poop - when it is not diarrhea, it is constipation doh3.gif When it is not constipation, you eat a darn plastic tag..... Mister poop, shall be your nickname dancing-poop.gif

SO GLAD they all had good meals! clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif Lucky is really doing SO well!

I REALLY hope the pumpkin does the trick for Poopsy! cross.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif !!!!!!

Right?
You know..... I was thinking on my head..... So.... I am going to give him this week to heal - by Thursday, if he is not better, Friday, we are going to visit our hero, Dr. E. agree.gif
But then what? How do you talk raw with your vet who is not really knowledgeable about it (I am totally assuming he is not, by the way - he might be....)? I mean - Bugsy doesn't have diarrhea - he has constipation. He would put me on fiber or something? A person knowledgeable in raw, would discuss all sorts of matters about IBD AND his diet - including bone content, and such..... I know dr. E is knowledgeable to a certain degree.... and pro-raw.....
If they do a fecal for example: They will likely find salmonella, as a lot of cats who eat raw shed salmonella - BUT that doesn't indicate that he has salmonellosis.... As that comes with vomiting diarrhea, and bloody diarrhea, and fever, etc - not constipation..... and he is clearly not sick.... So I don't really see the point of looking for salmonella, and in a way I know it is one of the first things they will go after dontknow.gif
I really really hope we don't have to cross that Bridge ohwell.gif
I am glad that at the very least Dr. E is pro natural treatments, and understand Bugsy's situation when it comes to medications and antibiotics - we will not put him on any drugs unless last case scenario - due to his liver agree.gif and also his IBD..... So..... Crossing fingers and toes that he will just get better from now on.....
He is a delicate little cat this one - fine balance for sure! agree.gif

Day 41 Late night dinner - Arriba Halo!

Yeah, sounds like I will have to buy that 21oz bag of whole life chicken pretty darn soon. I am not even sure if the meals here are raw topped with Halo, or the reverse think.gif Sometimes I think the reverse is true.

Seriously..... Is there a fake spray that just smells like this stuff, but it's not really? Like baking spray? laughing02.gif Somebody manufacture one, because I am buying it hyper.gif

Dinner today was more chicken for the three of them - Bugsy and Hope were not amused - NOT their favorite food at the least disa.gif
Needless to say, Halo powder was flyin' high laughing02.gif They both left some food behind. They both also got pumpkin due to Bugsy's bottom issue, and Bugsy a small amount of crushed egg shells. Hopefully tomorrow he will be even better cross.gif
In the fridge, defrosting is a tub of Turkey for them - I will give it to Lucky as well, probably 50/50 tomorrow - she is fine with Turkey as she is with Chicken.

As soon as Bugsy is well again, I think I am going to introduce some new meat to their repertoire - I am in between finishing Nature's Menu intro (lamb), since we are already at 50/50, or jump into Hare Today, Rabbit. Nature's Menu might be safer for Bugsy now as there is no bones agree.gif I might wait a bit to intro bones into his diet agree.gif

Lucky ate well tonight - I estimate around 1.10oz. At some point I brought her into the "general population" it was nice having her in there - easier to top off all the plates - makes a waitress' job much easier when all the patrons are in the same room waiter.gif
But in the end of the meal she called me to her room - she wanted my solo attention..... and of course I obliged agree.gif
She had a total of 4.45oz tonight, so we are done tonight - I am NOT - and I repeat.... I am NOT feeding her a 5th meal..... I am way way too tired for that agree.gif

All of them started on digestive enzymes, and had no ill effects so far. On the site for prozyme they say we should reduce the amount fed per day, to prevent weight gain - I will go ahead and reduce both Bugsy's and Hope's and see what happens.
Well.... Good night peeps! wavey.gif

So you've switched their addictions from FF to Halo, huh?  Felix was somewhat like that until he finally settled into all raw/all the time.  I have a few suggestions:

1.  Simply prepare the meal, give it a "light top coat" of Halo, set it down, let them eat.  No more "tending" the bowl.  They are eating enough, and remember, you are trying to diet your boy!  At some point you will need to decrease his servings if you want to reach that goal.  LOL

2.  May I suggest you stop changing flavors so often?  In my case, I got them fully acclimated to a meat type.  They were eating it all, with no bells and whistles and frills.  Now when there's a change, they eat as they know what is in their bowl is their meal.  I think your kitties are still suspicious and since it's different almost every day, they are balking.  Cats like routine!

3.  So what if they don't want to eat 7 different species from 16 different brands?  Were you worried about that when you fed them kibble and canned food?  Mine are pretty much beef eaters, with occasional switches into chicken or lamb.  None of them like turkey, and I am reluctant to pay for quail or other game meats.  If a neighbor were to offer me some deer from a hunting trip, I would use it.  My cats have been eating raw for 3 years and are the healthiest ever.

4.  Mixing some water in the food is a great suggestion.  Mine eat "stew" as I have had some bladder issues with my wires and that takes care of it.  Brillo eats it much better mushy.  Sure I'd love it if they'd eat big chunks and bones and all, but Ziggy is the only one who puts forth that effort.  I had to decide what I wanted more---healthy overall or eating chunks/bones every day.  I do offer chicken wing tips, necks, as treats as well, but only once in a while.

5.  If you end up taking Bugsy to the vet, I don't think you need to obsess over the diet, etc.  He's eating...end of story.  I suspect the plastic caused a little injury and with some more supportive care, he'll be OK, and if you do go to the vet, just answer the questions and go from there.  You don't have to "prepare for battle" and have a scientific double blind study ready.  LOL

6.  Remember--this is FEEDING CATS, not brain surgery.  We all love our furry friends, but to be losing sleep and having such anxiety, for such a long time can't be healthy for you!  Relax, take your time, let things evolve.

Hope I didn't offend...suggestions are offered with good will. :)

Oh Carolina - Lucky eating with Bugsy and Hope! clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif She's doing SO well!!!!!!!!!! biggthumpup.gif

And with the recent issues with Bugsy (little tear from tag), you may want to finish introducing the Nature's Menu lamb. agree.gif

BUT - I don't really consider that though.... As I see pure chicken on Halo as an enticement, not an addiction, while animal digest, the very first ingredient on fortiflora - ah! that's addictive as it is what coated their kibbles for many many years - like nicotine for cigarettes agree.gif

1.  Simply prepare the meal, give it a "light top coat" of Halo, set it down, let them eat.  No more "tending" the bowl.  They are eating enough, and remember, you are trying to diet your boy!  At some point you will need to decrease his servings if you want to reach that goal.  LOL Not ready for that yet, and nope, they are not eating nearly enough - if I do this, Bugsy for example, will eat about 1.5oz a day - hepatic lipidosis waiting me on the corner.... not willing to gamble here..... Baby steps.... I understand that I will have to do this... yes - so I am reducing the amount/giving lighter coatings, letting them eat more before giving to them, etc.... but not just the initial topping and walking away - believe me, tried that and the results were not good.

I was changing every meal, now I change every 4 meals or so.... I do think it works for them, and it keeps them interested. I do like rotation as it gives them different nutrients, calories, balances out what they might be missing, and in case of a shortage, or them going finicky, I am covered. But yes, I am slowing down my rotations, but will still rotate - I believe rotating not only flavors, but brands too.... If I fed frankerprey I might think differently, but with commercial, that is my opinion....

Hum...... Don't know where you got this impression.... They eat one brand, 3 flavors dontknow.gif There is a reason why I want to add different brands to their rotation aside from the variety..... an important one is cost - Rad Cat costs me over $9/lb after tax, and yep, feeding 3 cats on that cat get to your wallet. So yep, they will rotate other brands - we will compromise here. I will pick brands that I think are excellent, vegetable free, all meat, that fit my standards, for Bugsy's health one of them is also bone free, and the other, regular, but fine ground. I think we all need to compromise - I will do what is best for them, of course, but I still need to live according to my means agree.gif Another important point is, who knows if one of these brands - say Hare Today - will strike luck and they will eat with gusto without any toppings? dontknow.gif All I can do is try agree.gif

Yep, yep - this was great for Bugsy!!

LOL Yeah.... I am really thinking about that.... I mean... I never went to the doctor because I was constipated laughing02.giflaughing02.giflaughing02.gif Bugsy is NOT sick - his energy level is fantastic, he is playing, being himself, eating well, doesn't have a fever..... He is 100% well.... but constipated.... So I don't really know here - he did get SO much better once that plastic tag was out, that I am inclined to think that was the problem, even though he is not yet fully recovered. Guess need to give him a couple of days and see what happens.... Not obsessing, but being extra vigilant agree.gif

6.  Remember--this is FEEDING CATS, not brain surgery.  We all love our furry friends, but to be losing sleep and having such anxiety, for such a long time can't be healthy for you!  Relax, take your time, let things evolve. laughing02.gif I wish it was a simple as just feeding cats.... Sometimes it does feel like brain surgery for sure - or feeding all the hungry in Africa.... or some MAJOR task like that. Definitely not as simple as it was before when it was kibbles and canned - there is a reason why people feed that, and I can clearly see it. BUT - that is not to say, that this is worth it - they are doing wornderful, and to me, there is no way I am going back - no matter what, I am not going back agree.gif

Hope I didn't offend...suggestions are offered with good will. smile.gifOf course not! hugs.gif I appreciate them.... and even though it doesn't seem like, I do listen.... usually it takes me a couple of day to process things and think about it..... and act upon it..... I do work on their pace though - they guide me more than I guide them. I do take stands, but to some point. I really really appreciate you posting here.... never stop hugs.gif

Day 42 Breakfast

Good breakfast today for all parties involved, including momma clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

Everyone was fed Turkey this morning, Including Miss Lucky clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif Everyone had their Probiotics and their Enzymes..... Speaking of which, I gotta say Prozyme has excellent customer service agree.gif
I had called them yesterday about the dosage for raw- stupid question really, but wanted to make sure.... as they give the dosage for 1 cup and I feed in oz. So - for 2oz you give 1/16th tsp. For Lucky, 1/32 of a tsp, or just a sprinkle, as she put it. Every meal - I asked about side effects, she said none. So far, she is correct, we have had no side effects here agree.gif

I also reduced Bugsy's qty from 2.2oz to 2oz. Hope is staying the same by mistake, but will reduce hers too - to 1.8. Lucky evidently will remain the same - she needs to increase per meal agree.gif

I sprinkled less Halo today - the thing about halo is that you have to sprinkle just a little - as long as they can smell it, they are fine..... so just a tiny bit at a time will do it - that's what I a doing it now...... and making absolutely sure they will not eat before I sprinkle it again. I don't feel bad at all with halo though..... as I felt with Fortiflora.... Yes, it is a drag..... but at least it is not junk. I rather have Whole Life chicken, as it is 100% chicken and no Carrageenan, especially for Bugsy, but that will happen soon enough agree.gif

Bugsy and Hope pretty much finished it all - Bugsy of course took f-o-r-e-v-e-r to eat...... Hope ate faster.

Lucky Ate with the big kids today clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif So cute clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif SO much easier for me too having her in the same room with everyone else agree.gif
For now only two annoying things going on - the "I want what she's got syndrome" from Hope rolleyes.gif So I really need to be the food patrol here in order for her to not attach Lucky's food patrolling-soldier.gif
And Lucky's incessant habit of covering everyone else's plate hide.gifrolleyes.gif

Aside from that, she ate pretty much everything - 0.9 oz, and since it was turkey, not chicken all of the sudden, I am pretty happy and proud of my baby girl :big thumb:

Here is for a good day for everyone out there cross.gif

Thank you hugs.gif He is getting better, but he still has some blood, which concerns me frown.gif He is straining, which is weird, since his poop is PERFECT - not pasty, not chalky, just as perfect as it can be biggthumpup.gif So the blood is coming from the straining - he might be recovering.... The blood does look a bit old, not that fresh red blood as before - that is good news.... today it was more that dark gelly like blood.... so he might not be bleeding anymore, just putting out what was already there.... But if this is not all gone by thursday, as I said, we will go visit Dr. E for good measure. He IS doing GREAT though - happy little boy through and through.

Could you guys ever imagine that Lucky was going to be eating raw like that? thud.gif My goodness - I am kibble free! I have NO kibbles in the house - she has been on raw now for what? 5 days? thud.gif
She just ate another meal 1oz - no fuss at all...... Poor Bugsy and Hope wanted too.... but nope, they are on a schedule, and on a diet laughing02.gifnono.gif They have to wait for dinner agree.gif
Lucky now is down to 4 meals - just one over schedule and yep - eating with the big kids now woohoo.gif Life is much easier now!clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

Day 42 Dinner

Will try to make this short..... Sorry, but I kind of forgot to write this one laughing02.giflaughing02.giflaughing02.gif

This meal was sort of a mess.... Lucky is a mess laughing02.giflaughing02.giflaughing02.gif
Hope and Bugsy had Turkey .... Nothing added in it, just their enzymes and Halo, of course. No water for Bugsy.

Lucky had her Chicken...... Tried to feed her with the big kids..... It worked out somewhat, but then it became messy. frusty.gif Hope just wants what Lucky is having.... thewife.gif Lucky is still used to eat in the bathroom, so she keeps walking up and down, calling me, and raising hell devil.gif
I am not sure what I am going to do from tonight on..... Maybe the solution is putting Hope next to Lucky agree.gif Maybe they will be happy together..... Let's see if that works out agree.gif
They both ended up eating under the bed, which I HATE - but they just hadn't eaten enough at all...... and were way too distracted by Lucky's the little Tasmanian Devil Girl to concentrate on eating..... They did finish everything under the safety of the bed.....
Lucky ate 1oz agree.gif

Hopefully tonight's late night meal will be easier!
whew!

Well, eventually Lucky will be introduced to the same proteins. I mean - is that the problem? Or Hope just wants whatever is on Lucky's plate? laughing02.gif My cats definitely get into that... doesn't matter if it's the same thing, someone else's bowl is BETTER. flail.gif

Day 42 Later night Dinner

Hmmmmmm.......

The three ate in the same room tonight - awwww...... we have a raw family thanksgiving-family-dinner.gif
Ok, not as organized like that laughing02.gif Plates were on wheels Skateboard-skateboard-boy-kid-smiley-emoticon-000323-medium.gif!!! The only one who starts on one place and stays on one place, is, amazingly, ADD kitty - Bugsy eek.gif he is one Chill, cool Cat!

Lucky had her Chicken, and Bugsy and Hope had Turkey. Hope is now the biggest nuisance frusty.gif She is everywhere....... but eating her food. She starts well, and then just wonders to bother Lucky now - trying to eat her food.....
On the other hand, the good news is that Bugsy is needing less and less toppings to go through his meals - he needs one to start, and he eats almost the whole thing..... now when I top his food, I just put a tiny bit..... just for the smell..... Halo is great for that - The smell goes across the room - if you put a dot on it, they can scent.... Bugsy, anyways.
Lucky is also needing less..... Hope.... oh well, that girl just seems to be Hopeless, or lately she is on a roll to bug me smashfreak.gif
Or.....she needs to be used to Lucky eating in the room agree.gif We will see.
After a while I just moved Lucky to the corner - she still needs some privacy - she likes being quiet and safe.... and frankly, I understand why - Miss Hope is definitely threatening agree.gif

Lucky had 0.85oz tonight, so in total she had 3.75oz today agree.gif This is it until tomorrow

Finally, just wanted to post this picture I just took of my two little trouble makers heartpump.gif

clap.gifclap.gifclap.gifwoohoo.gif You have three happy kitties eating all at the same table now flail.gif - Makes life much easier for you biggrin.gif. NOW if they would just stick to their "own" bowls. Day 43 Breakfast of this never ending introduction laughing02.gif

And the lamb came once again to save the day! sheep.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
Rad Cat Lamb is, without a doubt, Hope's favorite food - it turns that kitty cat into a kitty vacuum 126, to rather, into a lioness! 72
I dropped a sprinkle of halo for her to start, and I swear, in about 10 second the plate was polished clean! I don't know how she didn't barf.gif Scary!

Bugsy also had Lamb - no water added - although he needed several sprinkles, he ate every single bit of it - these guys love the sheep.gifclap.gifclap.gifclap.gif No problem chewing today - very happy momma!!

Lucky had a mixture of Chicken and Turkey - about 50/50 - I tried to feed her 2oz..... and tried to feed her in the room with the big kids..... She really really doesn't like eating with them. She rather have her own room, eat a little on her own, bother the heck out of everyone (yep, she has a lot of fun doing that laughing02.gif), then waiting for me to give her my full attention and dispensing Halo on demand amidala.gif
Even though she did not eat the full 2 oz, she ate a great meal - 1.55oz - the biggest meal she ever had. She is not into big lumps yet. I do need to make several smaller lumps rolleyes.gif But....... it is what it is, as long as she keeps eating that raw goodness!

Next meal will again be lamb for the big kids here - I am slowing down my rotations - instead of rotating every meal, I am doing at least 3-4 meals of the same..... unless they really don't like the meat...... Chicken for example I can pull a couple agree.gif

See you at dinner peeps wavey.gif

clap.gifclap.gif:clap:Yes it does!!! clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif

We got the Whole life chicken - The kitties gave me the seal of approval 199

I am seriously thinking about immediately dropping the halo from their diet, since it has Carrageenan, and moving onto Whole Life, which is 100% chicken..... agree.gif
The difference I noticed in between the two, and there is a difference, is that the whole life chicken is a bit harder - and it makes sense, since Carrageenan is a gel type substance. As far as taste..... Kitties liked all the same - and momma likes the pureness of it better agree.gif
I will just switch it for the next meal - Bugsy doesn't need any additives on his food agree.gif

Day 43 Dinner

Hope and Bugsy again had their beloved Lamb sheep.gif....... I am afraid they will be two disappointed kitties tonight when I serve them chicken laughing02.gif Hope only needed one tiny sprinkle of Whole life Chicken, and the whole thing was gone in seconds. thud.gif Bugsy took a little longer, but not much topping at all.... He is just a slooooooow eater. sleeping.gif

Lucky got Turkey tonight, and a dollop of Lamb....... which was left intact laughing02.gif She ate in her room - not fond of the big kids - of course she did come back for her basic covering the plates routine hide.giflaughing02.gif

She ate 0.9oz. for a total of 3.4 oz so far - definitely no 5th meal today woohoo.gif

I need to figure out what to feed the two OC (Original Carnivores laughing02.gif) tomorrow - Don't know if I do chicken or Turkey..... Regular rotation would be of Chicken..... But they are SO not fans of chicken..... Maybe that's why I should feed it to them.....

The order should be tomorrow chicken, when the container is over, Turkey, then when that's over, Lamb. Each container lasts a day and a meal if I only feed the two of them out of it, and a day if I feed Lucky from it too.

Bugsy has not pooped last night or today yet, so I am not sure how he is doing on the poop-o-meter department. I really want him to be better already - for that alone, and for me to re-introduce Nature's Menu. It will be the lamb again agree.gif Just don't know if I intro it with Lamb, turkey or chicken...... Decisions decisions! think.gif

Day 43 Late Night Dinner

clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif aright, I was afraid of feeding them chicken after the beloved sheep.gif but it went a-ok! biggthumpup.gif

Hope and Bugsy had some yummy poultry tonight, and Hope is definitely a little carnivore! Bugsy, of course took longer to eat, but ate well, and is needing less and less toppings - I am also REALLY happy with the change to Whole Life Chicken - feels awesome to know I am not giving them any additives at this point - they are having nothing but wholesome goodness clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif
Hope again, finished in record time - then just waited by my side for the other lame eaters to finish their meals laughing02.gif

I is finished - I just sits hear for a while
450

Lucky had 1/2 chicken and 1/2 turkey again - She ate with the big kids today, and had 0.9oz - she is doing GREAT! Her total consumption for the day was 4.3oz woohoo.gif I slowly want to build her up to 6, but want to make sure she eats on schedule - nono.gif for a whole bunch of meals agree.gif

Here she is eating with Big Bro Bugsy clap.gifclap.gif yum yum rryumy.gif

And I got my answer as what I am going to feed them tomorrow...... NOT chicken..... Not because of anything.... But I am down to my last tub, and that is reliably Lucky's meat - so the decision has been made - Rad Cat Lamb, and re-starting the introduction of Nature's Menu Lamb hyper.gif

Bugsy hasn't pooped yet, but he is not passing blood either, nor mucus, which is great - I think he is on the mends cross.gif It is actually good that he doesn't poop, I think, so those little vessels can heal agree.gif
Kitties on raw can poop every other day, so he is on track for now.......
We will see how things are tomorrow - if he is not all good, then we will see dr. E Friday............ But hopefully that won't be necessary cross.gif

And those pictures are just so cute! laughing02.gif

Hope they love the Nature's Menu lamb just as much as the Rad Cat! cross.gif

Day 44 Breakfast

Bugsy is suffering from a shy poop-o-meter syndrome laughing02.gif or..... his poop is just so perfect that has passed through the meter UN-noticed laughing02.gif
Either way, I take that agree.gif

For breakfast today............ We are reintroducing Nature's Menu Lamb clap.gifclap.gifclap.gif Finally woohoo.gif
It went very very well! Hope and Bugsy had 75% Rad Cat Lamb, and 25% Nature's Menu Lamb - Didn't even notice the difference - Hope swallowed that in 10 seconds, the usual kitty vacuum. Then waited patiently (well, not so much we are talking actively stalking, really 21) for Bugsy to finish so she could lick his plate clean laughing02.gif
Bugsy had all of his food today, did not need any water - and very little toppings. He did leave tracings, mostly juice for Hope laughing02.gif

Lucky had chicken this morning - her favorite. I tried to feed her with the big kids, but she REALLY likes her privacy agree.gif So once I was done feeding Bugsy, I wen with her into the bathroom to finish her meal - I am not sure what the issue is, but she likes the peace and quiet agree.gif
I tried to feed her 1.6oz, but in the end, all she could have was 1.2. I stop when I notice all she is having is the WL chicken. nono.gif

Very good meal overall for everyone - I think this is going to be a smooth transition into Nature's Menu hyper.gif
