Digestive enzyme supplement

Can I give my cats the digestive enzymes for human?

I have Now Foods digestive enzymes for human, the ingredients seem not much different from the ones for cats.  I wonder if it is good to give them this.

Just to be safe, I'd check with my Vet, but then again, my Vet is very good at working with me on this type of question.  Don't know how others are.  I can just call her up and ask the questions, shell research it and call me back!

I am not sure either. BUT think it would be alright - as I give people Probiotic to my cat's. Acidophilous capsules... but, yes, check with your vet first! Let us know what your vet says, I am curious smile.gif.wavey.gif

I asked the vet.  He said enzymes and probiotics are the same for human and pets, and those don't hurt.  He is a "liberal-minded" vet though, very good in life and death situation, but isn't too critical about nutrition.    Now I don't even know if Now Foods' enzyme supplement works; my mother said it doesn't work for her....

Well, I know what pro-biotics do, but not sure what an enzyme supplement is even supposed to do!  What are you wanting to achieve here by giving it to your babies that a pro-biotic won't do?

All foods have to be broken down by digestive enzymes, which cat's body can make.  My cats are old.  I thought old cats' digestive system have to work harder than younger cats to digest their meal.   Raw food contains enzymes, but most of these would be destroyed by heat when making canned or dry food.  so I was hoping to give them some enzyme supplement to help digestion.   I am actually inclining to stop giving the enzyme powder/capsules because I'm not sure if those really work.

They can't hurt, and they may very well be helping on a level you can't see, so if you wish to feed them, why not? biggthumpup.gif

Thanks AC,  I guess I should continue giving  enzyme supplement  then.   I should look for a good brand first....
