Just wondering...both of my cats and Rottweiler always follow me into the bathroom when I take a bath. The dog will lay in the doorway facing the tub, the oldest cat lays on the edge of the tub right by my head, and the younger cat will lay on the bathmat next to the tub. Why do they do this EVERY time I bathe? The older cat used to sit on my lap while I was using the toilet, but now is only interested in the bathing part. Thank goodness! If I lock them out of the room, all of them will whine until I am finished with my bath. It's like I can never just relax in the tub without an audience! haha!!

It is the most economical litter I have ever used. I only put a layer of litter in the pan that will cover half the pan. As the cats use it, it turns to sawdust. When its all dust you dump it....

Seriously, many people on this site discuss how their kids follow them into the bathroom every chance they get. I can't remember the last time I walked into one of the bathrooms in my house without being followed by at least 1 cat or dog. I think they know you are a captive audience at these moments and want to take full advantage of the situation.

Maybe there's a doctoral thesis in this problem. I can guarantee if I take a bath, I'll have cats in the bathroom. Take a shower, and they don't come in until they hear the shower door close the third time. (1st time, getting in; 2nd time, getting towel; 3rd time, getting out).
Every cat we've ever had, but one, has ended up falling in the bath water at least once.

Funny, funny.
All of my cats follow me into the bathroom, thankfully though, not usually at the same time. Meghan is compulsive about joining me if I'm taking care of business... and she non-stop meows unless I'm petting her (grrrr). Ralph is fanatical about accompanying me if I'm in the shower or the bath. From his behavior, though, I get the feeling he doesn't appreciate my cleaning efforts and may even think I "fell in again". He's forever trying to scoop my feet or my hands out of the water.
The rest of the six are hit or miss, but I find the attention nice, either way.

I have to share my bust a gut laughing bathroom story. It was freaky at the time but hindsight has me laughing about it and might explain cat behavior. I used to live in an old farmhouse and the toilet on the main level had one of those old fashioned pull chain toilets, so there wasn't a tank behind the "throne" and the back was easy access to the cats. There was a little ledge at the back of the toilet where the pipe fed in from the overhead water tank. I was sitting on the throne one morning while my (OTB) Bob Marley was in there with me. I felt him jump up on the back ledge of the toilet and didn't give it much thought - a little weird but OK, I am in the bathroom as his captive audience. Then I felt a paw brush along my backside at which time I sort of jumped (as much as you can do so while sitting on a toilet). He pulled his paw back, all wet from trying to bat at what he saw in the toilet.
My theory on this one? He was curious. Bob was a very smart cat and was always trying to learn about things.

Only a problem when I am wanting to wind down without any animals trying to drink up all of my bath water. The dog used to stick his head underwater and try to rescue my hands and feet! I have a taller tub now, so that has stopped. But, both the dog and older cat will drink their fill, and then get settled in. I just think it's funny, with a little annoyance on occasion. :-)

My (RIP) Harley, when he was little, used to follow me into the bathroom whenever I took a shower and whenever I got out fo the shower he would try and get at my (long) hair to suck the water drops out of it (every time). it got to the point he would literally try and jump on me getting out fo the shower to get at my hair. The last straw was when he launched himself from the ground and got as far as my waist before sliding back down - with me being naked and him not being declawed, I was not amused. I can laugh about it now, but I had scratch marks going down from my hip to my thigh. Anyway, I quickly trained him out of that! lol. However, we compromised, and one of his most favorite things in the world to do would be for me to come down to him after my shower and he would sniff and lick at my hair.
Later on, as he got older, he'd just sit by the bathtub while I was bathing and his favorite thing was if I'd drip some water on his head and he'd lick at the water drops falling on him. he wasn't the brightest bulb in the basket but he was a great cat..
He died last month after I had to euthanize him (he went downhill very fast from what we suspect was cancer). but up until a few days before he died he'd still come into the bathroom and wait for his water drops or to lick at my hair. The last day, he was too weak to walk to the bathroom, so I went in to where he was lying down and let him sniff at my wet hair. He started purring. I still tear up thinking about that. the first few days after he died it was really hard to take a bath and not miss him being there waiting for his water drops.
Now I have a new kitten (6 months). He was a rescued feral and has been getting more and more brave around us and is super sweet, and, of course curious about everything. He just came in to the bathroom today while I was taking a bath and was craning over the side to see what the deal with the water was (I guess?). I was afraid he was going to jump in at one point but he just ended up getting his head wet. lol. So we'll see if he ends up wanting to hang around the bathtub like Harley used to.
Mine love watching me shower, in fact Cooper will sit on the ledge and watch and I have to be careful opening and closing the shower door because he tries to stick his head and/or paws in. Coop is also fascinated by watching the toilet flush. And my husband told me he tried to bat the "stream" once lol.

When Roxy was a kitten she used to come in the bathroom, now she's too busy doing her own thing.
Molly, 5 months, like to squeeze under the door to the toilet, as she gets bigger it's getting tougher for her!
When I'm in the bath Molly sits on the side of the bath watching. She sometimes bats at the bubbles, or puts a toe in the water then looks at me like "what are you doing meowmy?!"
^.^ My dog used to accompany me to the bathroom and everywhere I went, for that matter.. Oliver loves to be in the bathroom now, his window perch is in there and he loves to slump overt he side of the tub to watch us bathe and shower. He is not affected by water sprays, and once the tap is turned off he goes in the tub for clean up and licks all the water up. He's fascinated by moving water!

My Candy is obsessed with water totally,I ran my shower the other night and nipped in the bedroom to get towels when I went back into the bathroom Candy was standing in the bath at the far end (not under the shower head) but she was drinking water from the bottom of the tub.I have lost count of the times she has fallen into the water when I have took a bath as she walks all around the tub when I'm in it,she sits in the sink and I run the tap for her to drink out of,she's one mad kitty

Hah! My cat ALWAYS watches me bathe AND shower. Always...without fail. When I'm bathing she will sit on the bathroom counter and stare. When I'm showering she will sit outside the tub and she will again... just stare.
I have always wondered why she does this. I can tell her attitude by the look on her face and usually when I'm in the water she just looks concerned. As if I will drown and she wants to make sure I don't? When I use the toilet she comes in and rubs against my legs or just sits next to me. I just can't even enter the bathroom without kitty bo coming in to investigate. Doesn't bother my one bit... I think it's cute and I love the attention... but it's a behavior I've just always wondered about.

LOL!!!
I don't see it as a problem, to me it is cute. My babies both watch me too. Both of them have fallen in the tub on more than one occasion- all I can figure is they want to see mommy, be with mommy no matter what. Smokie will climb in my lap when I am using the toilet too, I just have come to accept it- A few times smokie has gotten golden showers from daddy!!
