Sedation question..

So I had to take Picasso to the vet today since her eye was really red, swollen and irritated (got antiobiotic ointment for her). She was a complete angel.

since Monet was due for his annual and shots, I took him along too. Man was he a BAD boy! hissing, growling, snarling, biting, scratching, hissing.. one would think he's a feral!! The vet had to sedate him as I didn't want to try again another time. I've never, ever seen him so upset before.

I forgot to ask, and the office is now closed.. is it OK to feed a cat while he's still groggy? The vet told me to keep him in the carrier for a few hours, but I failed to ask about feeding his dinner... suggestions?

And how long would the effect wear off? I hope he'll snap back to his old self by morning. He's currently in the dark bedroom on my bed, in the carrier.

When my kitties have been sedated I don't feed them until I see them acting completely normal.  The vet told me I could start by giving them water and if they tolerated it well, then give them food.

I hope your kitty feels better soon.  It must be difficult handling them at the vet when they are so upset.  My kitties get so nervous at the vet that they let him check them perfectly fine, but they are soo nervous, the poor babies.

thanks :) I gave him half a can and he gobbled it right down.

then he fell over in the carrier.. should not have left it on the bed.. figured my scent would be strongest there. Poor thing!

is it wrong of me to laugh upon seeing him walk like a drunk person and hitting his head on the wall? I put him back in the carrier, hissing and growling.

awww poor baby, I know they look funny hehe, all my kitties have recovered fast from sedation, all but Fuzzy, it lasted a whole day and he kept falling over, my poor kitty!  I then decided to keep him in a big crate for the rest of the day.  I guess Fuzzy is very sensitive.

How rude of you to laugh at our little guy laughing02.gif  I think it's a good idea that you put him back in his carrier, even though HE, apparently, didn't like the idea.  How's he feeling today?  All's forgiven?

It took him till late last night to get over his grumps. I took someone's advice and put baby powder on both kitties and it seemed to work in a few minutes! I am sure da bird helped too
