If she is still on pain meds, her appetite will be affected. She sounds a bit like my Fred though, a bit on the dramatic side.
I have had more cats than I can count go through the spay/neuter process but when Fred was spayed, he acted so pitiful, so sad, so distraught I rushed him back to the vet. He acted completely normal while he was there. Ate fine, chatted with the techs, loved on everyone. He was totally playing us. Punk.

I'm sure she'll be fine, especially once the collar is off and you aren't administering pain meds anymore.

As to the Christmas spay.....don't feel bad, every kitten I work with (which isn't many these days) gets an extra special 6 month birthday present!  Don't know how they feel about it but I love it!

Oh, sorry I missed this thread til now! (I am missing most threads til the weekends these days...) I hope Tabby will start eating ok soon, and also hope she heals up ok and feels back to normal real soon!! Dorothy hated that e-collar for the day or 2 we had it on her when she had an eye infection... She wouldn't eat with it on either, but she would as soon as I took it off. So I left it off when I was home and could watch her and not let her paw at her eye..

Well I hope by now Tabby has eaten some turkey or baby food... I forget, is she a cuddler at all? Meaning, could you take off the collar and hold her and love her and get some food in her that way? (Like feeding a baby kind of, I guess?)

Anyway, best wishes for her and for all of you!!!

How is Tabby doing now?

I don't understand why vets just automatically put cones on them now. I've never had a cat wear a cone after a spay, ever.

Don't heat cat food in the microwave. :) To warm cat food, run hot water over the dish and leave a litte warm water in the dish and mix it into the food, or, run hot water over the dish, put the food in the dish and set the dish of food into a bowl of hot water and let it sit there for a few minutes, then stir it around.

Offer small amounts at a time, not a whole dish full.

Keep us posted!

Aw, poor baby! I'm sure she'll be feeling herself soon. There are a number of TCS kitties that have taken a few days to want to eat again after surgery. Definitely affects some more than others.

BUMMER that she picks at her tummy though - I guess you have to leave the cone on there. If it's still an issue Monday, maybe pick up a baby "onesie" for her and cut to adapt it. Several people here have tried that vs. the cone, because most cats just hate that thing.

Like otto, we've never had to use one after a spay... but that was because everyone left their tummies alone.

:vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: she perks up for you tomorrow and it's a perfect Christmas!

She didn't eat breakfast this morning. She roamed around the kitchen with the other cats while we were preparing their breakfast. She acts like she's hungry and she goes to the plate, but after a lick or two, she's done. She is drinking water, though. We tried to add a bit of warm water to the food instead of microwaving it. Nothing. No baby food either...she won't touch it. I only put a teaspoon or so of food down (mixed with a bit of warm water and she won't eat. All she wants to do is bite at her belly.

She played with Da Bird last night. I was careful with her, not a lot of running, jumping, etc. It was a more careful play and it lasted about 15 minutes or so. She was fine.

She slept with me all night. Once we put the collar back on, she flops down and that's it.

Thank you for your help with us. I just keep thinking that sooner or later, she'll decide to eat. When Amber came home from her spay, she ate absolutely nothing for one full week. Finally Rick sat down with her and said that if she didn't eat, she was going back to the vet....and that night Amber ate. We were in contact with the vet the whole time that time, too.

I don't know what to do for Tabby. I can get a Onesie for her on Monday. Thank you.

Today, Monday, we have eating!
Tabby got up with me and trotted out to the kitchen. She was crying and circling right along with everybody else for breakfast. I took her collar off and she dug right in. Finished her plate and then started in on what Molli didn't eat. She would have gone over to the other plates, too, but she hasn't eaten in a few days and I didn't want her to eat too much and then get sick. So I told her we had to take it slowly for awhile. She washed up, started biting at those stitches and I had to put the collar back on. She is not amused and is pouting on the green pillow in the living room.

But she ate a very good breakfast! Yay Tabby!
(I was all prepared to cart her off to the vet this morning)

Glad to hear she started eating for you. Hopefully the pouting will end soon too!

Oh that is a relief. It just took her longer to recover. Make sure the vet puts that in her record, the longer recovery time. Depending on the anesthesia used, if she ever needs it again, they may want to use something else.

Glad to hear Tabby is feeling better and eating again!     How much longer will you have to keep the collar on her?

Give her a big kiss for me!

Thanks so much and thank you for the vibes for Tabby! I tend to worry about her more so than the others and I was scared to death when she stopped eating. Thankfully, she's completely back to normal eating-wise anyway....she's back to doing circles on the floor while I'm preparing her food and as soon as I take that collar off, she's right at her plate, eating and purring at the same time. I just love that girl. She's making up for lost eating time, too; as soon as she's done with her plate, she moves from plate to plate, cleaning as she goes. I swear those plates are almost spotless!

Molli has been a bit of a PITB since Tabby came home....must be the vet smell (although it's not that bad) and Tabby's collar must bring back some memories for Molli. She's been sniffing and hissing. Even Amber hissed at poor Tabby and those three cats are good buddies. But she's taking it all in stride, thank goodness.

Poor Rick spent the night on the couch again. He had another bad sinus headache and he prefers the couch when the pain gets too bad. But he did come back to the bedroom, only to see Tabby all sprawled out on his side of the bed, sound asleep, burrowed into the covers. Mollipop was on the other side of me, sprawled out, too, and I was flat on my back with my hands on both girls. Pepe was between my legs and BooBoo was on Rick's pillow. He said there wasn't any room for him to squeeze in anywhere and he didn't have the heart to move anybody, so he went back out to the couch.

Lana, Tabby has to wear the collar for two weeks....our vet insists on the collar for the entire two weeks, until the stitches are removed. She has her stitch removal appt on Jan 5, so she'll be wearing the collar until then. We have awhile to go yet. She's doing OK, though, and does get around better than she did. She's no longer moving backward; evidently she realizes that the collar is going to stay on....or she hasn't figured out yet how to get the thing off (Molli figured it out in two days!). But she's starting to climb up the cat tree again and she finally started to climb on the back of the chair to watch Rick get the cereal ready for her to eat.....she loves Frosted Mini Wheats and she and Rick share a bowl every morning. Rick fills his bowl, then brings the bowl and a saucer over to the kitchen table. Tabby hops on the table and Rick places a soaked Mini Wheat on the saucer for Tabby to enjoy. She'll eat four pieces or so, then she's done. She started doing that again this morning. So she's getting back to her old self. But she (and we) will be glad to get that collar off!

No Onesies.....we didn't leave the house at all yesterday. Hopefully we can get down to Target tonight.

We call Tabby our little Southern Belle because she looks so darn cute with that collar on! It reminds us a bit of a bonnet.

Thanks for the vibes and the wishes.....I really appreciated them!

I am just now catching up with Tabby's spay thread.....
I always find a spay very stressful.

Tabby :vibes: :cross:

Well, she has two stitches left. The vet glued the incision shut again, but no more stitches. She has a bit of a swelling, but they think it's from internal stitches and from her digging. So far, no infections and we are to keep an eye on her belly. And she can no longer even have the collar off to eat....vet says she has to get used to eating with the collar on. Which, to me, just isn't fair. It's only for her dry snacks, I guess, but for canned food? What a mess that would be. I have to get to Target, but with everything happening today, I didn't make it.

I no sooner got home and was working on dinner when I noticed her belly. And found the stitches on the kitchen floor. And we ran to the vet. Vet was very busy tonight and we waited a long time.

I told Rick "No More Female Kittens". The spay is simply too stressful.....on us!
