Quotes in replies

Isn't there some way to make the quoted section of a reply more distinct? It is very difficult to tell where the quoted section ends the the reply starts.

It's a strain on my eyes, and slows down browsing time besides, since one has to sit here and try to sort the post before reading it.

Since you're using Firefox, you can use an add-on like Color That Site and change the color of the quote boxes or just deepen the shade. It works, but you have to play around with it a bit.

I've put a royal blue box around all the quotes which is visible for me all over the site:

Choose a TCS page with quote sections to work with, and open Color That Site. You'll know you've chosen the right color to change if the border around the quote section flashes red when you mouse over it in the color palette Color That Site offers (image 6).

The border also shows up around nested quotes:

P.S: I've chosen random quotes from around the forums to illustrate this.

testing........

I originally copied the whole post in quote so I could do the color with this page to the side and follow the instructions, and that worked perfectly, but since I am done now, I've reduced the quote to reduce space. smile.gif

Tricia, your step by step instructions were beyond helpful. I never would have been able to figure it out, otherwise, thank you so much.

To anyone else trying this, it took me some time to find my 'color this site' icon. It wasn't listed in my tools, or under add-ons, or up in the Mozilla bar, all the places suggested in the site. Just as I was about to give up in despair (really!) I saw it...down at the bottom of my screen, not quite centered, to the right.

I'm glad it worked for you! catenthralled.gif I kept thinking the instructions wouldn't be clear enough. I had a horrible time when I first used Color That Site - I kept ending up with strange combinations because I was trying to change too many colors at once. A lot of it is trial and error. My icon is down at the left, oddly enough.

I've played around with this a little more, and now have red borders around the quotes. You're right, it does make reading easier.

It worked for me because I followed your little arrows. I know it took time for you to make those instructions like that, and I really appreciate it. Having the borders makes a huge difference when reading posts with quoted replies.

I figured the icon might show up in different places for different computers, is why I mentioned that, too. I hope this helps other people!
