Hi everyone, I have already posted this thread on the "care & grooming" section, but although people have looked no one seems to be able to help so I wondered if it might get a better response here. I am planning to start up a boarding cattery (Kitty holiday home!) in the near future, and have been trying to find a site on the web that can give me any information on the legal requirements of this and the health & safety regulations. If anyone has any info at all I really would be most grateful, any experiences or suggestions are desperately need!

Many thanks!

I don't know of any sites that can help but I would advise visiting several vets or other catterys to see how they do it. We do some boarding at our rescue facility. The key is definitely isolation. I don't know if there are any legal requirements such as providing documentaion where you live. I think it may vary by state. Mainly, you just need to keep cats completely separate from cats from other households. You also need to completely disinfect when a cat goes back home. The more you keep the germs out, the better the chances of your success!!!! I would also make sure you have a good contact written up for people who board with you to sign including stating any problems their cat has, emergency contacts, etc. Also, when a cats environment changes, they are more likely to get UR infections and minor illnesses. Their immune systems drop slightly which is even more reason to disinfect when a cat leaves your facility. Good luck with your venture!!! Keep us updated!!!

Many thanks for the reply! All advice is much appreciated. I think I will be paying a visit to a few catteries in my area. - I also didn't know that the cats immune system drops slightly - thanks for the info.
I am actually in the UK and I think there are certain health and safety requirements/building requirements that you have to go by, if anyone has info on this, please help! (I suppose I should stop being lazy and just go to the library really!)

Thanks again for the info!

I'll move this thread to the breeders forum. I think breeders may be able to help you as it's a lot like building some types of catteries.

Best of luck!
