Are cans made by Menu food evil?

I read that many premium canned foods are made by Menu food, and many people seem to avoid that.  What is your opinion about it?  Which brands are not made by Menu Food??

Most of the reason people avoid Menu is because of their enormous 2007 recall where tons of pets were vomiting and experiencing kidney failure because two ingredients in their food combined and produced insoluable crystals that blocked kidneys. Most store brands are made by Menu (their wikipedia page says 17 out of the 20 largest pet food/grocery stores use Menu) and Eukanuba, Iams and Nutro are both made by Menu as well. Actually, it would probably be best if I quoted the wikipedia overview of it

Quote:
Menu Foods manufactures both low cost and high end pet food products. It manufactures pet food for 17 of the top 20 North American retailers, including PetSmart, Safeway, Wal-Mart, Pet Valu, Kroger, and Ahold USA. It is also a contract manufacturer of branded pet food products, manufacturing for five of the top six branded companies in North America, including Procter & Gamble,[8][9][10] for which it is the exclusive supplier of canned wet pet food sold under the Iams brand, P&G having sold its South Dakota plant to Menu Foods in 2003.[11] Menu Foods also produces Loblaws' President's Choice, A&P's Master Choice, Sobeys's Compliments, Safeway's Select, [12]Eukanuba, and Nutro.[10]

When I googled Menu Foods, I see that they seem to have been bought out by Simmons Pet Food, Inc., but I cannot seem to find any info on exactly which companies Simmons manufactures FOR!  They just state that they manufacture for 35 of the 40 leading U.S. brands.

Sorry, guess I'm not much help here!

Even premium brands like Evo, Nature's variety and wellness are all manufacturered by Menu food, I wonder if they definitley use ingredients provided by different companies.

I was speaking to someone who works at Simmons and said that when they make wellness foods they're required.to do a.thorough cleaning of the factory before.making any of their foods. I was asking him about their Simple Solutions lines and if they clean the factory out before making.it.to avoid contamination from allergens and that is what he told me. I didn't, unfortunately, ask him about the ingredients and their source. You could go on the Simmons website and probably ask them.
