Hello

Since the day I got my cat, as a kitten, the breader said he is a sneezer, the vet checked him over and he is healthy.

We took him to our vets, who said the same - a few weeks later had him in for the chop, they still said its fine.

I feel sorry for him its like he has a mild cold all the time, When it gets wet it gets worse, but what can we do about it?

Put him on the l-lysine supplement. It's possible he's harboring the herpes virus. No cure, but l-lysine controls flare ups and boosts the immune system.

Pure powder is best. 500 mg a day is the therapeutic dose, once he is improved it can be dropped to 250 mg a day, or 500 mg every other day, increasing it back to 500 mg daily whenever he has a flare up of the sneezing.

I use this brand

though I know many prefer this one:

1/4 teaspoon is slightly more than 500 mg but not enough to matter. It can be added right to the cat's food, the only taste it has is slightly salty. You can give it 1/4 teaspoon a day or 1/8 teaspoon twice a day.

Discuss it with your vet of course, but there isn't any reason not to use it and plenty of reasons to start. And if your vet hasn't thought of it, s/he should be made aware that l-lysine is a good treatment option.

Yes, agree with Otto :D. Will help tremendously with the sneezes. I give 500 mg. for seven day's then go to 250 mg. for maintenance, once a day. All of my cat's are on it right now because I have had a virus run through here :(. Has helped so much keeping them healthy and out of the vet's office  :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Just a curious question - Is there something different in the Source Natural's as compared to NOW. I use the NOW - but just wondering if you ever did a comparision ?? :thanks: :wave2:

I have read that the Source Naturals dissolves easier, but I don't know. I have also read that the NOW has a "slightly sour taste" but, not having ever used that brand, again I don't know for sure. I started using Source Naturals brand l-lysine powder in...I think it was 2000, for Tolly :rbheart: and as it always worked for me ( I take it too, when I feel a cold coming on) and my cats, I never saw any reason to try anything else. :)

I have used both and the Source Natural lysine seems to be a finer powder and seems to dissolve easier.  The NOW brand has bigger granules and can clump together rather than dissolving.
