Hello all

my kitty Minca  has been shaking her head a lot lately, seams normal otherwise, been about a week or so, now today I noticed,

which I look at her eyes everyday, one of them is like wet, glossy looking running down  the side of her nose, she is 10  years old, I don't see her 3rd eye,  no color to it really, should i be concerned, make an appointment to the vet, I have not taken her in for shots, in a few years, she is indoors, hate to put her through the strees. thanks for any replies.  she plays like normal, eats normal. that is why i have not taken her to the vet...

I agree vet visits should be avoided when not necessary, but this sounds like a infection to me and would require care.   Things like that are a lot easier to treat when diagnosed early on.   If you smell Minca really close and its a bit odorous, then you know its pretty bad.   Might even be a sinus infection though, and the eye is just a side symptom.   *shrugs*

When you do take Minca to the vet, don't let them talk you into vaccinating her. For one thing, only 100% healthy animals should be vaccinated or else you put unnecessary stress on their immune system, but also the fact she's 10 yrs old and an indoor cat negates any benefit she would receive from them.

It's probably not ear mites (although it could be; I've seen cats pick them up in odd ways).  Ear mites are largely an affliction of juvenile cats, and those under other immune stresses.  It COULD be a yeast infection.  The two can look very much alike.  That's why your vet should check very carefully.

Agreed - do not let them vaccinate her..... In fact I just had my one year old's vaccinated for the last time in their lives... anyway - unfortunately ALL three are now sick with viruses. Your cat does not need vaccines at ten years of age. With the watery eye - I would take your kitty to the vet. My Perla started with a runny eye a couple of week's ago - and the vaccine put her over the edge into a full blown URI shame.gif..... The watery eye is a sign that your kitty has a little cold.... Just keep close watch and if she goes off food or seem's lethargic - take her to the vet.

You could try giving L-Lysine http://www.nextag.com/now-lysine/shop-html - as this will help ward off a herpes virus flare-up. 1/8 tsp. - 250 mg. or 1/4 tsp. - 500 mg. Only give the 500mg. for one week - then go to the maintenance dose until she is better - if you decide to try this. Just mix it into the wet food, it has not bitter taste and all cat's eat is easily.

For the head shaking - could be an ear infection - or possibly ear mites. Are the ears flattening out to the side a bit? Is there a lot of scratching going on? If it were ear mites - you would also see scratching.
