Ads from my homeland??

Im from Sweden. Many of the ads I do see here are also from Sweden in swedish.  Ie there must be some connection.   I have even noticed some ads tend to have a connection with what I do seek on google and such.  which I think is rather improper.

BUT.   I do want to see american ads, or ads from other countries.

This is the main reason why I originally began to be here.  To the american ads.

(I planned to start a import firm, and thus wanted to look up what was to buy abroad. I still do have perhaps some plans).

I dont have none whatsoever use to see ads from my country.  But I do have some use for seeing ads from other countries.

So I dont want to pay to have them shut down.

Is there any way to switch off the swedish ads, and see instead ANY other ads?

We do use a Google network to deliver the ads. That system tries to "match" ads to the users in two ways -

1. Geo-targeted ads - something which is an industry standard and would happen with any ad network (I have worked with many in the past).

2. Context-targeted ads. They're definitely relying on the context of the page your browsing but may also be using information from Google searches. In terms of this being "improper", this is really between Google and the user. When you search for something on Google, you agree to let them do that. The only way to avoid that would be stop searching Google... Just please know that neither TCS nor anyone else in Huddler knows what ads you're seeing, so in that sense, there is no invasion of privacy.

I'm in the same boat as you. I live in Israel and I see my own geo-targeted ads most of the time, in Hebrew. There is absolutely nothing we can do about this from the site. When advertisers purchase a campaign, they almost always choose to geo-target it, simply because they don't want to waste money on showing ads to people who can't even buy their products locally.

I think the only way around this may be if you surf via a spoofed ip address. I'm not sure how to do that - I think it can be through a third-party website or maybe by using special software. You may want to research that option.

Tx for the response!  So it was more or less as I thought. The Google doing...

I suspect your advice is the solution.

I shall try too look after this. And sooner or later I shall find something...

If and when I do it, I shall report here.    :)

Please do! I don't normally care, but it might be interesting to take a look at what 90% of our visitors are seeing without having to travel. Not that I mind traveling, if someone would sponsor a ticket laughing02.gif
