Christmas Eve's new tradition is:

A big pot of Pinto Beans

A side of Cornbread

A side of Collard Greens of we can find them

Homemade cookies and eggnog while opening gifts after dinner

Christmas Day (same as Thanksgiving Day)

maybe just some cashew or spiced pecans while we're waiting for the turkey to finish (don't want to have a lot of leftovers, so want people to be hungry!)

Turkey cooked on the Weber BBQ

Stuffing (or dressing, depending on where you're from)

mashed potatoes

gravy

green bean casserole

MAYBE sweet potato casserole depending on if my Mom is up to it, since that's HER dish

Pecan Pie and/or more homemade cookies

Iced Tea and/or Wine and/or eggnog

Everything sounds wonderful! Just let me know all the times and I'm going to invite myself to all your meals! :lol3:

We're eating at 2:00 and everybody is invited here, too.
That's perfect. My mom is noon and the evils are ay four. Pit stop in the middle lol!!!!!!

Do you have a recipe for the green bean soup?  Sounds yummy!!
I will ask him but I know its basic. He takes all the left over ham chops it up and then puts it in a pot with the bone and I think the juice from the roaster and some water adds green beans and cooks it. I will double check with him at dinner but I'm pretty sure that's all there is to it. It's amazing......mmmm ham!

You have left over ham?  Goodness, we never do.  We get one from Honeybaked and it is always sampled before dinner.

We have our big dinner on Christmas eve and this year we are having some sort of chicken, have no idea what sort, but it's chicken :lol3: I am in charge of a couple appetizers, a sausage and cream cheese dip with Rotel; we call it Puke, cause, well, that's what it looks like :flail: but it is sooooooo good! and I'm also making Chicken Buffalo dip cause I have been craving it :tongue2: Other things we have are:
cornflake potatoes
shrimp cocktail
mac 'n cheese
spinach dip with pumpernickel bread
green bean casserole and
rolls

and we celebrate my sister and I'd b-days on Christmas eve, mine is the 20th and her's is the 26th, so we usually have cake, but my mom is not getting one this year, she said we're getting to old for cake and ice cream- I think not! :lol3:

then, for Christmas day dinner, we have a ham and my mom's rotini salad, along with everything we didn't eat on Christmas Eve :lol3:

It's going to be a tough Christmas.
So... I'm taking it easy this year, it will just be the three of us (me with husband and daughter) so I'm cooking the very minimum and buying some stuff.

Christmas Eve: we have appetizers, all bought this year

Christmas Day:
turkey

savory gravy (stuff turkey with apple, onion, garlic, carrot, celery and you will be amazed at the tasty drippings!)

stuffing

cranberry sauce (going to add pecans to it this year)

green beans (my sister Linda's recipe)

mashed potatoes

yams

purchased desserts!

lots of wine!

Hope everyone has a festive meal during the holidays.

Change of plans, slightly--we're having CHEESBURGERS! Yep, CHEESEBURGERS for Christmas dinner.  MIL bought us a surprise gift yesterday: a George Forman grill.  We had made and frozen a big plate of twice-baked mashed potatoes (with the requisite caramelized onions, bacon, and cheddar  in them); we have bagged salad leftovers, and roasted red pepper mayo leftovers, and I had impulsively bought big rolls this morning, so it works out fine. We want to try the new grill out. I had bought appetizers during the week, and a gourmet cheesecake sampler today.  I got an iced tea maker for Christmas, so we're going to try that out, too.

For just 2 people, this will be GOOD! Yum!  We'll watch Netflix movies (love that on demand thingy!) by the fireplace.

Finalized the menu just yesterday.....I'm totally not on the ball this year.

Appetizer are being provided by the inlaws so won't know what they are until they get here. Usually a cheese tray and homemade egg rolls.

Dinner

Smoked ham

au gratin potatoes (Pioner Woman recipe)

Broccoli casserole (pioneer woman again)

Green beans

corn casserole (pioneer woman yet again....sensing a theme yet?)

popovers

Dessert will be several different cookies and coconut pie.

Im actually going lite on desserts this year. I always make too many and end up throwing some out. And everyone is so full from the meal that they just don't eat much of it anyway.

Yum, cheeseburgers sound good! We had the family dinner this evening - cheese lasagna and/or vegetable lasagna (with eggplant, zucchini, peppers and onions), a big mixed salad, and chocolate cake for dessert. It was a good choice, because I could get most of the mess cleaned up before our company arrived (we don't have a dining room, so that's something I take into consideration). Believe it or not, it was the first time my 87-year-old father-in-law ever ate lasagna, and he loved it. He's an incredibly picky eater, so usually you have to stick to standard German fare with him.

We will be having.....

Turkey and stuffing

Mashed potatoes

Gravy

Candied Yams

Cranberry sauce

Olives

Bisquits

And for dessert

Pumpkin pie and Chocolate Cupcakes

I will put my turkey in the oven right before we leave for church. I will bake my pie and cupcakes tonight. I will also chop the veggies for the stuffing and probably boil the yams tonight.

Are you talking about a Mr. Coffee Iced tea maker? If you are, you are going to LOVE it! A friend gave us one that she had hardly used, and we use it every day! We love it!

No, mine is a West Bend, but I'm sure I'll also love it! Actually, I think DH is going to be using it every day, instead of me!

Well, normally I use a canned or gravy mix for the gravy... But this time, since there was a lot of pan drippings, I thought I would make my own gravy.

It turned out totally AWESOME!!  Much better then the canned or mix. I think I will buy a better quality turkey every year since it makes a lot of drippings!
