Met a lot of really nice people on our cruise and found quite a few cat lovers.    There was one couple who we had breakfast with one morning-- from Los Angeles - and they have 5 cats (I believe they are Siamese).  Anyway, I gave them info on The Cat Site and she sounded like she was really interested in joining. Unfortunately I didn't get her name, but if some new person from LA joins TCS it might be the L.A. person we met.

You will find a lot of cruisers who hate the newer dining practices on cruise ships.

It used to be that you were assigned to a table and either the early or late seating.  You had the same tablemates every night, and you often made permanent friends that way...or permanent enemies, occasionally.

Now most cruise ships are much more lax, and even the formal nights are a dying practice.  The good news is, you get to  meet a lot more people.

There is only one (and possibly two, I guess ) cruise ship that allows pets, and even then, only on transatlantic crossings.  And it's expensive.  I'm waiting for a cruise ship that has rental cats, so you can have the warm, purring presence on your bed at night.

(By the way, back in about 2006 or therabouts, we met a couple who gave us a big warning of what was coming economically.  The lady worked for Countrywide Mortgage in North Dallas in a department that was responsible for getting undocumented aliens approved for mortgages by hook or by crook, in order to meet their quota requirements under the CRA.  I knew at that moment that a crash in  the mortgage industry was just a matter of time, since I already knew, from my real estate experience, how mortgages are bundled, bought, and sold.)

Sorry Mike - didn't get a chance to finish post.    We enjoy the open seating dining because we can meet all different people and don't have to go to dinner at the same time every night.      Last year Carnival was a bit unorganized with the open seating (they call it "Your Time") and many times we sat alone.  Now they ask if you want to share and have gotten a lot more organized.    I guess some people like to dress up but as for us "casual" is the way we like it.     Carnival is also a lot more relaxed in their dress code, as long as it's not sloppy -- torn jeans, etc.    A couple of nights we were nice jeans to dinner and there was no problem.  Even on the dress-up nights they didn't insist on men wearing jackets which made my husband very very happy!  Of course we inquired at the hostess desk before we went to dinner and she said there was no problem with no jacket.
