Rival canned cat food from biglots?

Anyone ever feed this?  It has chicken as a first ingredient (along with water, fish, wheat, byproducts, and the other usual stuff...It sells for 45 cents a can...which makes it cheaper than friskies in most stores and with meat as a first ingredient, I thought it would be a pretty good deal.  I bought 4 cans to try, but haven't fed them yet.  I wanted to know if anyone on here had tried it first.  If I do end up using it, it will be added to my rotation which includes primarilly Friskies, with some natural balance, BG, and whatever else is on sale.

Thanks!

As I live in Europe, I do not know exactly the content of all USA cat foods. However, I do know that Friskies is not generally considered a good food, and indeed I did look up the protein content and it is only 44%, less than most other 'popular' brands. There are a great many comparison websites you can go to, that have charts. Be careful, though, as some of these are sponsored by actual manufacturers and are meant to promote their own products.

I looked up the ingredient's and personally I would not feed my cat's that food frown.gif. Wheat middling's, by-products and even garlic powder which is toxic to cat's. I would NOT recommend feeding this food. You are better off using Friskie's or even Fancy Feast. wavey.gif

No website to even find ingredients?  No other sellers?  http://www.biglots.com/browseDepartmentItem/pets/4698

Just doesn't make sense to me in the information age that these guys are so obscure... I'd be hesitant.   Does it have the AAFCO statement on it that its complete and balanced and so forth?

Thanks for your responses guys.  I'm at work atm..so can't check the label...I'll do so when I get home and reply. I was in a hurry at biglots and just saw catfood with chicken as a first ingredient...it was cheap, so I bought some to try and didn't read the entire label while at the store.

jennyranson- I know friskies isn't the best, but I feed their "special diet" line which is specifically for UTI-prone cats... It's far cheaper and better quality than the Science Diet perscription diet which is the alternative.

Thanks for your replies!

Sure - we are always here to help in anyway possible smile.gif.... Also - if I understand the above correctly, your kitty is on a special diet for UTI's - then be very careful about changing diet. Stick to what your vet recommend's or one of the other "urinary" diets. Good luck to you and your kitty - keep us posted vibes.gifbiggrin.gif

Yeah, my concern is that it appears the company is doing everything it can NOT to create brand recognition.    I believe brands are important, as they form lasting relationships with their customers.   The brand represents an investment in reputation, and these guys don't even really throw off the vibes of being a new startup since they're flying so low under the radar.   At least with Friskies you can call them if you had a question.

I did find someone else confused as to how no information was seemingly available took the time to transcribe the ingredients on the can:

Quote:
chicken, water sufficient for processing, meat by-products, Chicken by-products, beef, fish, liver, wheat middling, carrageeneenan, salt, cassia, guar gum, potassium chloride, taurine, red oxide choline chloride, garlic powder, zinc sulfate, niacin supplement, ferrous sulfate, vitamine E supplement, thiamine mononitrate, manganese sulfate, d-pantothenic acid, copper sulfate, pryidoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin supplement, vitamin A supplement, Folic acid, Potassium iodide, sodiium selenite, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement, Vitamin D3 supplement.

I looked at a can when I was at Big Lots the other day, and it said on the label that it's "formulated to conform to AAFCO standards", but it didn't have the whole feeding trial label like a lot of the big brands. I figured it's just another dollar-store brand, which is why no "brand recognition". I'm sure you haven't heard of Super Dog or Happy Kitty or Fancy Pet or whatever the brand is at the dollar store, either.
