Extremely playful just after eating

Thread Starter

My husband and I just acquired Murray and Daisy this weekend from the humane society. We LOVE these cats, and already they are part of our home forever! They are both young (Murray, one year and Daisy, 6 months).

One thing I noticed right away is how hyper and playful Murray gets right after eating. It's completely fine with me! I engage in the playing, and we have a great time. I think it's so cute how playful he gets. He plays at other times throughout the day as well - just not the same crazy way as when he is done eating. Do your cats go bonkers after eating as well?

Also - I notice that his nose extremely pink while playing. Normal?

Yes my Jack can run around after eating, but after 15-20 minutes the food must kick in because he goes flat out  asleep.

The pink nose could be with all the running around as well just like we get pink cheeks after exercising

Same thing with Ritz:  once she gets enough food (and only when she gets 'enough' food--she's on a diet) it's like a light switch comes on and she is ready to fly through tunnels, jump and turn 90 degrees to catch that DaMouse and run a marathon through the condo.

Same thing (sometimes) after she has a nice, satisfying BM.....

Loki does the same thing!!! ROFL! He rips through the house tossing his toys...running up the scratching post and making his cute little meow. It makes me laugh every single time. My bf says he's crazy...but he's my crazy hehe. I noticed this only since starting to feed him wet though. And like Ritz he also gets very happy if he has a good BM...litter flying everywhere as he dashes out of the litter box.

LOL, same here. Litter box and meals stimulate my cat like crazy! He'll actually run out of his litter box after covering-up and is ready to play. After eating and playing though he's ready for a nice nap. Awww.

Yeah, one way we can tell Punkin has just been in the litter box is that he zooms from one end of the house to the other.  It's gotten so the other cats hide when they hear him in the box, so they can take turns ambushing him on his mad dash.

yes, mine is very playful too just after his breakfast meal. After he eats I make sure to play with him a while as he's usually on a tear right about then, zipping around the room. In the afternoon I give him a lighter meal / snack and he's more in cat-nap mode around then and then he's playful again after his dinner time. I don't know about the pink nose because his is black and does not change color. But I would guess if he is running around it could get flushed.

I know my late cat (RIP) Harley was a lighter color and he had a pink nose, and toward the end of his life, when he was anemic, his nose was closer to white (as well as his paw pads and the inside of his ears). But normally, when he was active, they were a dark pink color.

I don't know if it's that cats are extra active around mealtimes or if they are just extra active around certain times of the day (very early through the mid morning,  as well as early evenings I notice with my cat). Sleepytime seems to be the afternoon and maybe midnight to sunrise.
