Pooping outside the litter box

Thread Starter

I have two cats, my older cat has always used the box & covered his poo.  The younger one always jumped in & pooed but never covered it up.  My oldest cat this past summer was diagnosed with diabetes.  After that, the younger one started pooing outside the box (luckily i have a matt there).  I don't know if it could have anything to do with the keytones in the urine???  Anyway i did research online & it said a cat with diabetes should NEVER eat dry food again for the rest of its life (since they always like to graze & eat it all day).  I took the dry food away & fed both of them the W/D food for diabetes (since i could not get them to eat separately).  I give them 1/2 can twice a day.  My cat with diabetes had dandruff from the top of his head to the tip of his tail & now his hair is shiny, he has lost weight, he has no dandruff & the diabetes was reversed & he no longer needs the insulin!  I checked his blood several times a day.  However the younger one continues to poo on the matt outside the box unless i pooper scoop twice a day. I am ready to get one of those electronic boxes that scoop it every time they use it or to teach them to use the stool in the bathroom!!!  :)

I read that cats sometimes don't like to share litter boxes. I think I would try installing a second even third box to see if he'll use that.
