Melting chocolate?

I'm making cake balls, peanut butter balls and who knows what else today. My MIL gave me 2 big bags of melting chocolate but it's kind of white on the outside. I know that is caused by the chocolate getting warm then cold (it was stored in the cupboard for a few months), but once melted will the white look go away? I've eaten candy bars that looked like this and they tasted fine and I still lived to tell about it so I don't think went bad or anything.

yes, you can melt them and hte white residue will go away - it is sugar forming after temp changes, and just melts. HAve a great bake!

Thanks hon, I actually melted a few chips and let it cool and it looks fine. So, that's the scientific explanation behind it doh3.gif. Makes sense though.

It's called "bloom" and it happens when the chocolate is stored in a place that can get too warm sometimes.

Oh yeah it will not look white when melted.

I just made some peanut butter balls earlier this afternoon with chocolate that had the white on the outside, and it turned out fine when melted. I also taste tested some after they were made, and it tasted fine!

Oh yeah, I taste tested one or two (or three or four laughing02.gif) and they were fine. In fact, I think I have a sugar high now!
