Actually- it is my dog, Wilbur. Larry NEVER has been one to suggest we get a pet. But when we went to "just see" these puppies -who were related to the dog we had at the time (Jack Russell's) Wilbur just stole my husband's heart, I guess. Because after we were driving away from the house after seeing the puppies - Larry slows down and turns to me and said - Do you want that little guy???? It was December 22. 1998. I knew that I would never hear those words out of his mouth again. AND Wilbur - my :heart3: dog - has been by my side since that day - thirteen years ago..... Best Christmas gift ever.............
But for my birthday several years ago DH got me a small telescope! Nothing fancy; but it works! I've ALWAYS loves stargazing and wanted one. I never asked for one though. I guess I didn't think to; figured they cost a lot. And of course really good ones can; but even a nice simple one is a lot of fun!
Patience. It's weird but df was not a cat person so his patience in regards to my having so many cats is the best gift. He will complain or make stupid comments about us having too many animals but I know he only says that stuff to get me all riled up lol. He loves the cats and wouldn't live without them ever again.
For a Christmas gift, it would have to be a painting my grandfather did that a friend saw at a consignment shop and bought for me. Grandpapa was a very talented painter but only did it for his own pleasure, he didn't sell anything. I was actually the first person in the family (except my grandmother of course) that he did a painting for. For my high school graduation he repainted a picture of an old bridge here local and that was my graduation present. After he passed away the original (along with his other paintings) went to my aunts, uncles and cousins. About 2 years after he passed a friend was at our house and saw the one he painted for me and said he saw one very similar in a shop down town. He asked the name of the artist and I told him it was my grandfather and told him the name. So he got it for me for Christmas that year. I have both of them hanging in the living room.
For most thoughtful gift ever was the CATS tickets my husband got me for Valentine's Day a few years back. DH is not a fan of musicals but they were doing shows in DC and I mentioned to him that I would love to see it live so the next day he ordered the tickets. He actually did enjoy it!
When my son was born, he was 2.5 months premature and spent almost 2 months in the hospital. One day while I was holding him in NNICU I realized the diamond from my engagement ring in my wedding set was missing. I knew it had been there when I scrubbed because I had noticed how sparkly it looked in the hospital light. I was just sick. We looked on our hands and knees on the floor but they had swept while we had been there. Well having a preemie is expensive and I figured I'd never be able to afford to have it replaced. One Christmas morning when my son was EIGHT my husband handed me a box inside was my original ring box and he had Elmer glued a new diamond into my ring...he hadn't had time to get it set. That was the best Christmas gift that I didn't see coming. He's a sweetie!
