Please note that YouTube videos must be embedded. To quote from the Forum Rules

Links to Youtube pages and videos are not allowed - if you wish to share a video, please embed it into your post.

To do so, click this icon View media item 184570
Click the "Share" button under the YouTube video:

Copy and paste the video url

or the embed code:

between the video tags you get when you click on the video icon.

If your preferences are set to the BB Code Editor,

you can also type the video tags, video in square brackets and /video in square brackets, and paste the video's url between them.

Note: You can jump to a specific point in any YouTube Video by adding the following syntax to the end of the URL "#t=1m45s" Just replace the numbers with the specific time in the video you want, and the video will start at that point when a user clicks your link.

One reason is video spammers posting here to drive traffic to their videos/You Tube pages.

I would think that embedding videos would cause lag on the forums. I know I find the forum laggy when I click on a thread that has embedded videos in it.

I much prefer to link to the video than embed.

Just an FYI, whether embedded or viewed from youtube, you still get your share of the ad revenue exactly the same if you're a partner.   The only way they wouldn't would be if the forum ran adsense which replaced the content owner's ads with their own, but that violates Youtube's terms of service anyway.

Embedding the video in and of itself should have no effect on forum performance Natalie, other than the fact that you have to wait for the thumbnail to generate and the bandwidth that uses which might slow things down a tiny bit.

I like embedding since I'm too lazy to make a bunch of clicks to view a vid.

Embedding doesn't slow down pages, or at least shouldn't. The video might take a while to load, but it shouldn't affect the other parts of the page (and any slow loading time of the video are the same you'd be seeing in YouTube).

Links to YouTube pages are spammy because they aim at increasing the links number/pagerank. Embedding the videos here counters that. I'm ok with them getting their adsense revenue share, but I do want to keep link spammers at bay.
