Hey all!

Seems like everyone wants a purebred kitty even when it's clearly not purebred.

I am actually curious about my Marley. I've posted before. She will be 4 next year and she is still very much a kitten in her nature. I love her to death!  Everyone always says how beautiful she is and I have even had people at her vet offer to "take her off m hands" she is that purdy! I am flattered but she is my Baby! lol I have always thought she was just a Siamese mix of some sort but as most people they saw cats 101 and say hey my cat looks like that! She does resemble the ragamuffin in personality and the ragdoll in both personality and some characteristics.  Anyway here are some pics.. starting from when she was six weeks old until now. She doesn't even look like the same cat, I love her if she's a mutt just the same!

Tell me what you think she may be mixed with(if anything at all)?

Six weeks old.

Four Months old here.

Probably two yrs here.

.

all stretched out so you can see her color.

Marley and My other kitty Hendrix she is 4 years older. But Marley is way bigger!

Taken this past week. She is such a princess!

Gorgious!

The "siamese mixes"  - ie colourpoints withouth well documented ancestry - are tricky.

They dont need any recent input of a siamese!

The colourpoint "masque " gene is recessive. It means you must have TWO of them meet, to break through.  And when it breaks through: Voilá, you do have a very nice "siamese mix". Usually a look-alike of Siamese old type.  This takes over almost any other breed features.!

The same is essentially to tell about the longhaired gene.

It is more than enough if the dear Ma had somewhere the colourpoint gene, and so happens the dear, dear Pa to have i too.  And IF they happen to combine...

A wellknown example are the Russian Blue.  Sometimes, somewhere, there still happens there is born a Russian who is a precisely look alike a old time siamese. While all the litter mates are pure russian blue...

Why?  Once upon a time, shortly after the World War 2, where there were few of Russian blues left, they tried to save the breed by using some blue pointed siameses.

After a while they didnt not more used siameses NOR the pointed kittens in breeding. Sometimes even actively taking out born pointed Rus.

And yet, there are still these Natures wonders born now and then.  They arent used in breeding, but they are nowadays kept as loved pets and nice examples.   :)

Congrats to your furry friend!

Wow! You know your stuff!

So if her mother and father had the recessive siamese gene I would get her?  Even if they don't look like Siamese mixes themselves?  I remember from anthropology usually the dominant gene is the one that shows? But I think I may be slightly wrong..

So can you classify her color... I know she is no purebred... but since she does have points is it blue point cause of the dark face?

I love her so much, even though she may not be a ragdoll she is like one to me. She loves to cuddle!

Yes, or if her parents have any other colorpointed cat somewhere in their lines it is possible for them to have colorpoint kittens. As StefanZ mentioned, the colorpoint gene is recessive, which means that neither of the parents has to look like one as long as they both carry the gene. Same thing applies with longhair gene. Dominant genes are the ones that may be passed on even if only one of the parents looks like that, and those genes cannot skip generations. They either show immediately in the offsprings or they didn't get that gene, for example the silver color. One of the parents has to be silver for a cat couple to produce silver offspring, but two non-silver cats can't have silver offspring. Silver can't be carried like the colorpoint pattern.

Her color looks like a blue tortie point. Hard to see from the pics clearly but I think she's a tortie point.

Your  Cat looks just like my new Ragdoll Kitten. I hope 'Raggedy' grows up to be as beautiful as yours.
