Mounting

My cats just turned two last month. One's male, the other female, raised together since birth. They have been fixed since about 12 weeks. Since about August this year, the male (Simba) has been mounting the female (Pumpkin) randomly. First, it was just once or twice with weeks between incidences. The last few days Simba has been particularly aggressive about it towards Pumpkin chasing her for hours trying to mount her. Is this normal behavior? Is there anything I can do?

Poor Pumpkin! This can be play, or a show of dominance among cats of different or the same gender. Or it can even be affection, even if sometimes one-sided. I have one cat who constantly tries to mount his best buddy(female), who generally ignores it. They will probably sort it out between them. You could try redirecting him to a stuffed toy or a favourite cushion - that sometimes works.
