ok i am dyeing my hair right now, and cynder decided he was going to jump on my shoulder and got hair dye on his fur!!!!! I quickly grabbed a wet towel and tried to wipe it off, and then dry him, and i don't know if i got it all off!!!!!!!!!!! and now he is licking his fur to dry it right where the dye was... omg is this going to make him really sick.. i feel horrible and i should have shut the door but i didn't and now im freaking out as i got to go to work at 10:30am and he will be home alone till hubby gets home at 4pm.. do you think he will be ok or could this cause sickness or death.. how bad is hair dye if he ingests it.....

This site has some good info. If you wiped him off and dried him and didn't see any dye on his coat then I'd say it's unlikely anything bad would come of it. He could be cleaning himself because you messed up his scent in that area. Encourage him to drink water to flush out the toxins. If you're really worried and convinced he ingested some, take him to the vet to be observed while you're at work.

What kind of hair dye?

Hope it works out

He should be perfectly fine sence you washed him. My mia licks herself after being washed too.

Yeah, most cats regard anything we do to their fur as an insult.

He should be fine.  Don't beat yourself up; you're providing a much safer environment than being outdoors would be for him.

Doesn't dye have a lot of ammonia in it?  Maybe he's licking it because he's attracted to the smell.

I saw your thread and immediately thought it was the "not eating issue again" LOL I guess Cynder is destined to give you grey hairs :lol3: She will be fine, I am sure it was not a lot and you wiped it off. My daughter got hair dye on one of the cat's a few years back, kitty was just fine  :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
