I'm very worried about my cat, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to deal.

He hasn't eaten much in 48 hours.  Two mornings ago was the last time he ate a meal normally.

That evening two days ago, my fiancee gave him his usual evening meals with a little water in added. He doesn't like to drink water from a bowl, so we usually add a little extra water to his canned food. He didn't eat his afternoon and evening meals. My fiancee thought this was maybe because he put too much water. The next morning, he gave him unwatered food, and he still wouldn't eat it.

Yesterday evening, he bought a bunch of different kinds of catfood, and some meaty baby food to try to get him to eat something else. he licked a little of the baby food up, and ate about half of one 3 oz can of one of the foods, and that was it.  This morning he won't eat again.

He isn't acting lethargic or otherwise sick.  He's walking around, alert and otherwise normal, except for not eating.

My fiancee is taking him to the vet for a drop-off appointment. I'm really scared and worried. And I'm out of town for the next 16 days, which makes me feel worse. I just want to hug him, but can't! and I'm fearing the worst.

How do you deal when your cat is sick and you have no idea what is wrong? And when you're apart for a long time?  And is there anything I should be recommending my fiancee try to help entice him to eat?  Any words of wisdom or advice are welcome.  Thanks

How old is your cat?  Male, I presume from your wording.  Is he using the litter box normally, most specifically peeing regularly and normal amounts?

Constipation, urinary blockage, and upper respiratory infections can all have this effect on a cat.  It's good he's going to the vet; that's the best thing, at least for a start.

He's about 6 years old.

He seems to have been going to the bathroom, and had a big bowel movement last night.  I worry about bowel blockages, for sure, cause he definitely eats lots of 'bits" of stuff off the floor, and tears at the newspaper all the time.

He's dropped off at the vet now, but it'll be a whiel till we know anything, I suppose.

There could be so many causes, but he is in the right place. Cats eat by smell, so if they get any kind of cold and can't smell their food, they will often refuse to eat. But keeping fingers crossed for you that whatever is wrong is easily sorted out.

Still not much word, and I'm still very scared.  His creatinine levels are high, which is super duper scary for indications of kidney problems, but he isn't thirsty or drinking, and he isn't urinating. So maybe URI.  But there's still no answer.

Just lots of vibes that the vet is able to find a cause, and treatment, very soon - I can only imagine how scared and upset you and your partner are.

Thank you all for the good vibes and positive thoughts. We still don't know much more. His urine was of a good concentration, no blockage, and it isn't diluted. Which is a relief, but doesn't get us any answers.. His Creatinine levels are high still. They gave him some fluids while at the vet, so he's now hydrated.

He's home now, and they gave him some stomach coating stuff, and mirtazapine for his appetite. (I've actually been prescribed Mirtazapine before, and I gained 20 pounds...) But he's still not eating. So I'm still worried. :(

The vet said that they can do an ultrasound tomorrow, for $400. I'm not really sure what this would show, though. Could it be a worthwhile diagnostic to do?

$400 for an ultrasound is a bit steep, to say the least!  My older cat was diagnosed with an enlarged gall bladder last year and they did an ultrasound on her for about $100.  It was totally worth it for me, even though they were unable to tell why she has the enlarged gall bladder, because they were able to rule out cancerous growths and such.  Maybe that is why they want to do it?  They should be able to see if there is something stuck in his digestive tract by using an x-ray, I would think.  Sending vibes to your baby!
