The breeders have made their point clear on the moggie/domestic label... while I understand the unlikliness of a pedigree in the background, Kitty's genes come from somewhere! We are just trying to have a good time and chat about what our cats look like; we're not going to try to pass off our cats as purebreds or anything.

Everytime I read "without papers," Mowzers gets a hairball...  :(

I really think she is simply a lovely moggie.  Whatever you can find in pedigree cats came from moggies originally.

Hi this is my kitty and I was wondering what breed she looks like. I feel like russian blue but I am not sure because her facial structure looks kind of like a siamese. Thanks! :)

Like the vast majority of cats (well over 90%) she is almost certainly completely non-pedigree. A domestic short-hair. And, of course, she is gorgeous!

Her facial structure is nothing like a Siamese, at least not the current type.  She also doesn't look like a Russian Blue to me - ears not right.  Can't be sure about the rest of her - coat colour & texture, body shape, face shape - partly because the photos are dark, partly because I'm not that familiar with RB and mostly because I'm not able to handle her.

Hi all! I stumbled upon this forum while digging for some information about my cat, and have had a wonderful time browsing these forums!

My boyfriend and I recently adopted two cats from animal services. After reading through this thread I understand that almost no cats are "mix" breed and she's probably just a unique looking shorthair--I'm not looking to call her anything besides her name!-- but one cat looks interesting so thought I'd get some input. :)

She was listed as "siamese mix" at the shelter, I think just because of her face-- her back has an arch to it and she is long and slender. Her fur looks mottled colors in some of the pics but it's all black on the tips and half of the length of the hair is pure white, so when you pet her or she moves you can see the white.  I think this is called "smoke" or "shaded" after some research (?) However the web site said this was not a usual color for the general population so I'm not sure if I have it right. She was listed as a stray at the shelter but seemed very accustomed to people and knew when dinner was.

Anyway, I imagine she is just a funny-lookin' domestic shorthair but thought I'd get some input! And maybe I'm just still in new-cat love and want to show pictures of my new joy to SOMEBODY. ;)

She was very thin and had a cold when we adopted her, so please don't mind any skinny pictures... she has improved a lot since we got her a few weeks ago!

Hi and welcome to TCS!
My what big ears she has. :D I can see why they called her a "Siamese mix". Love her amber eyes too.

Hmm, her fur does look unusual, almost Rex-ish, but maybe that's due to being ill or malnourished in the past. It may be a "fever coat". If her fur is still like that in a few months when she's plump and healthy, post some more pics!

Her cold is completely gone and she has gained LOTS of weight (comparatively-- she's still a slender cat and I'm sure she has a bit to go) we took her to the vet yesterday for a checkup and she was good. Her fur still looks the same, only the boniness of her body is different. She actually immediately struck me as looking "like" a Cornish Rex when we brought her home-- her coat is short and really soft. But it's not at all curly or wavy... it's just white underneath and it looks like it ripples even though it is straight.

I'll be sure to post more pics in a few months when she's 100% good to go! :)

Pretty girl you have, her colour would be black smoke. Glad to hear she's doing so well with you and gained some weight.

What a lovely cat and she does look like a black smoke.  Quite foreign shape as well.  Face is more like a Devon Red than Cornish, but suspect she's a lovely non-pedigree.

Ah, so you know at least who the mother is? That is more then many of our askers do!

What can you tell about the mom?

Welcome to our Forums!

Good luck!

This is Apollon, he is barely 3 months old. He's already as big as my 10 month old cat (pictured), and he is very big aswell. Apollon has huge paws, about the size of Frankie's (the black kitty) two from paws put together. He's really sweet, chips when he wants to be petted, and usually sleeps sprawled out on his back, like in the picture above. His tail is long enough to almost wrap around his whole body, and he seems to use it as a blanket a lot. His ears are very big, and his fur is very soft around the collar, but his tail and body hair is more coarse. Also, the hair around his collar is extremely long, same with his ears and legs, as well as his tail and belly. His back has mostly medium/shortish hair, while some parts of it stand out extremely long. I adopted him from the vet I go to, they got him from a regular there who found him wondering around. Would could he (possibly) be? I've been extremely curious because I've never seen a cat like him in my life, especially being ONLY 3 months old and almost the size of a domestic adult cat already.

Somewhat alike a Norvegian Forest Cat.

But the "breed" is of course moggie, or domestic longhair cat if you want if more officially.   :)

Welcome and

Good luck!

Hi I adopted this kitty from the shelter so I know it is at least part domestic. She does have a bobtail though and I was wondering if you guys could tell if she had American Bobtail, Manx, Japanese bobtail, or some other sort of short tail breed in her. Trait wise, she is very active and loves to play. She also loves to jump around and wrestle with my hand. I think she does seem to have longer legs than average.

She is about 8 weeks old now and 1.6 pounds. She has medium length hair that is very soft.

She is very active and its hard to get a good pic of her tail. This is the best that I have:
