Well, last night, it did switch over to snow and we ended up with over 6 inches. Rick had gone to dinner with some old classmates and he said it was an absolute nightmare trying to get back home. Everything was fine in town, but as he drove south to come home, the road conditions steadily deteriorated. Vehicles were stranded trying to get up the hills along the main highway and it was just nasty. He finally did make it home, but he ended up having to go way out around the back way to get home, just to get away from all the stranded cars. He said he's getting too old for that stuff. Evidently PennDOT hadn't made it out yet and the roads were just horrible. (He said he knew I was pacing around the house waiting for him to get home...and when he finally turned into the driveway to drive up our hill, Tabby and I were sitting in the window in the living room watching for him.)
We live on a hill and it's just high enough that we have our own little weather systems. When it's raining down off the hill in the winter, we're getting snow. Lots of snow. I can leave my house in the morning in bright sun, drive down off the hill, and encounter dense fog. When our neighbors first moved in, they asked if there was anything they should know. I told her that the weather was a little weird "up here". During their first winter, they found out what I was talking about and immediately bought a 4WD vehicle.
I'll come into work and my car will be the only one in the parking lot with snow on it! That's happened more than a few times.
Our snow ended around 11 or so last night and by this morning, the roads are bare and everything is fine. We're already above freezing and the snow is melting. No school delays around here, although there are quite a few to the east of us. Came into work this morning and in town? Nothing!
