Ghost has had the run of the upstairs for a week now. First day she did more hiding than being seen. Now she moves freely about, though she sometimes retreats to her "cave" for serious sleeping. We've seen her in various cat beds around the house, and up on one of the cat trees.
Last night, she came up on the bed for the first time! She settled between my legs, cleaned herself, and then went to sleep. I didn't get as much sleep as I needed, because I was afraid to disturb her.
We are so proud of how well she is doing. She's still getting used to the big scary humans approaching her when she's on the floor. If we're sitting, we're not so scary...and we have hands to scratch her.
We're opening the basement door tonight. Hopefully, now that she's comfortable upstairs, she won't have the same need to hide as the last time she was downstairs. If she does, we'll backtrack a bit. But I think she's ready for the next step.
If everything goes well, we'll take down the cage in a week or so, though we'll leave the catbox, condo, etc. in the same location for awhile. The cage door has been open this whole last week. It's just there for her comfort and safety.
Ghost is playing with the other young cats in the house. She even tried to wrestle with our 10 year old fat boy. The older cats don't interact with her much, but are also OK with her presence.
Thanks for the support y'all have given. We are so happy that our little "road kill" is turning out to be a love bug.

FOR GHOST

Good plan about leaving the cat box and cat condo in place of the crate when you take it away. That is the way to do it
I have been keeping up with your thread's and still it is so heartwarming how you saved Ghost. and how she is becoming part of the family
