I still can't stop thinking about that black cat I saw at the adoption fair a few weeks ago, and now there's another cat I need! This beauty has been living in my friend's yard and trying to get into their house. Unfortunately, she has 2 large dogs and isn't much of a cat person to begin with, so she cannot keep him/her. He/she has a scratch on its eye that is healed, but other than that is completely healthy and has such a beautiful coat! I am almost wondering if it belongs to a neighbor or something, but considering how often it hangs out in my friend's yard, I am not sure.

*sigh* My friend wants me to take it, but I don't know if I can...

Oh my - what a gorgeous kitty!!

The first thing i would do is determine if s/he has a home. Perhaps put up some Found signs, put a free Found ad in Craigslist. If kitty is amicable to a collar, put a small note on the collar with her/your phone number & a small message asking for the owner to call about this Found cat.

IMO if s/he doesn't have a home i would be much more prone to taking in this homeless beauty who is desperately seeking a home, even trying to sneak into one.

:yeah:  And after a few days, if you have no response... you may want to crate kitty, take him/her to a vet. See if kitty's spayed/neutered, get a check up, tested for FIV/FeLV, treated for parasites (internal and external)... and see if kitty was microchipped, and... foster in your bathroom or something? If speutered, it's very likely a missing pet, though chances of reuniting him/her with her family is still slim. :(

But then you can decide whether or not you want to adopt the kitty, or work to find a shelter or foster network that may be able to take in this beauty!

Wow s/he is a beautiful!! I would try and post some "Found" signs around, and if there is no response to that after a few days, take him/her to a vet to see if there is any microchip.

I unfortunately came down with a case of strep throat, so I can't go see him/her for a few days.. I'll just call her a girl right now to make it easier. Luckily it's been super warm (76 degrees! What the heck), so I don't have to worry about her being homeless in winter weather at the moment. She has a scratch on her eye that is completely healed over, which makes me think me she's been outside for a while. My friend is keeping an eye out on her for now, and I'll put an ad up on Craigslist soon! Thanks for the replies, everyone!

You had me at "white cat"!

I'd be inclined to take her (?) in, if no owner could be located.

I talked with my friend a little more. She said the kitty has pretty much been in their yard all the time and if she did have owners, they were very bad ones. I told my mom about her the other day, and sent her the picture. I've had many conversations with my mom about wanting another cat for the past few months and she has been verrry clear that I should NOT adopt another. She pays my rent for now, so obviously I have to abide by her rules lol. But for some reason she fell in love with this kitty too. I think it has a bit to do with the fact that she looks a little bit like our kitty Abby, who just passed away last month
. She was grey and white, but had the same beautiful coat, face, and striking green eyes. I told my mom she should take her, but her other cat Rudy just does not do well with other cats so it probably wouldn't work out. He made poor Abby's life hell!

Also, I have never taken in a stray before so I'm not sure how to go about it. Will she need to be litter trained? Will she get along with Bowser? Etc, etc. Good news is that she's such a beauty and apparently very friendly, so I would be okay with giving her to rescue organization if I couldn't keep her. The one I adopted Bowser from is wonderful. I'm sure someone would snatch her up.
