Okay, so I have had to give enemas to my two 5 wk old boys for the last couple days, which is fine. They have sort of taken turns one feeling good, the other bad, and reverse. Very frustrating!

So, today has been a good day, both energetic and hungry!! But no poos on their own. I gave each an enema this morning with no results, and then again a while ago with good results from one (Ricky) and still no results from the other (Rocco). Ricky was the one who couldn't go yesterday... typical!

My question is, should I give Rocco another enema soon, or should I wait several hours? Or should I even wait until tomorrow? I have taken their food away for now, he is so bloated. But has been playing well... Any advice on the next enema?

I have to say, I've never heard of giving kittens enemas. Is this something that your vet instructed? Either way, you should call the vet  asap and ask for further advice. Kittens this age are very fragile and if you feel something's not right, it needs to be looked into without delay.

Thanks Anne. Happily, I can report that both kittens had bowel movements yesterday! So funny to be excited about it. haha

Yes, the vet did instruct me on giving the enemas. She said for such small kittens warm water is enough, but that if I still had no results I should use a little KY jelly with the water, and then if needed just a tiny bit of soap in the water. We didn't have to do that : )

Today I left them home on their own for the first time (in the bathroom with everything they need), and I am so nervous!! I miss those little runts!

Wonderfull the small folks are better now!  :)

Interesting to hear these enemas were recommended by your wet, and did work.

Good you retell us in extenso exactly what the vet said. Apparently this vet uses enema quite often and has good experiences with it.

Still. As always dont experiment on your own if you arent very experienced. Let the vet decide!:

What may be a good advice in one case, may be inappropriate in another, seemingly similiar case.

Otherwise, like Anne hints, enema seems to not be the common to do. You dont hear about this so often.

HI :D. So glad to hear the little ones have pooped yesterday :bigthumb: I would also want to ask you to be very, very careful about doing an enema on the babies. I see your vet recommended you do this - must know it is alright to do then. Personally, I would bring the kitten's into the vet if they were to need another - just to be on the safe side  You are doing a great job with your little "runt's" :lol3: AND I DO know how much they can be missed when you have to leave them - for any stretch of time :D :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

I wouldn't worry about it, they're not going to die from being constipated. I'm having the exact same issue with my babies, who are about two weeks younger than yours, and my vet tells me they will poop when they need to.

From what I've read about what you are doing it sounds like those babies are getting great care. If you have already started litter box training them they can poop on their own without stimulation. I wouldn't be doing the enema thing too much more if I were you. Just make sure they are getting the proper amount of food for their weight so they don't get dehydrated.

You're doing a good job, you can relax now.
