Hi all

Billy has a bit of a sensitive stomach and its taken me a very long time to find the right food that suits him.Just lately every time I put food down he gobbles it up so fast and within a few minutes he is sick (is just cat food). When he eats normally he is never sick just for some reason he is eating like someone is going to steal his food. What should I try?I have thought of maybe smaller portions at a time do you think this will help?x

Hi Ruthy!

I am catsitting for a neighbor right now and she has a siamese boy with the same problem.  She puts stones in his food bowl so he has to eat around them, and it forces him to eat more slowly.  You could easily try that.  Just make sure they stones are smooth and too large to be swallowed.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like regurgitation, aka "scarf-n-barf". Does he eat dry food? This tends to happen more often with kibble because it expands when it contacts the moisture in the stomach. Switching to wet food frequently helps, as does feeding smaller portions.

If you feed wet food, spreading it out on a plate that's elevated helps, rather than putting it in a bowl.

If it's dry food, the same idea - put it on a plate and elevate it. Then he can't take mouthfuls.

Thank you for all your replies,he eats both wet and dry,I will try LDG's idea first and go from there, sometimes he waits until the girls have eaten theirs before he has his but just lately he has been rushing in and getting his first,so much for gentleman like manners

I used to have a cat that was a "scarf and barf" - I found if I offered a few smaller meals throughout the day (same amount just divided up into smaller portions) it solved that problem. :D :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: For Billy :rub:
