Hi all,

I haven't actively been on TCS for quite a while, but now Piccalo has developed a problem and I thought of you guys at once!  Hope you can help...

Piccalo (11 y.o. female mixed breed) started acting tender with her food about 3 weeks ago.  I left her alone for a few days because I couldn't see anything wrong in her mouth, breath was fine, and she was still eating and drinking ok.  When I adopted Piccalo, she had bad gingivitis and had to have several teeth extracted, so I am always careful to check her mouth regularly and clean her teeth when she lets me. As soon as hubby was free, we took her to the vet.

The vet says she has mouth ulcers and prescribed antibiotics for 8 days (not sure the name of the antibiotic, it is Japanese).  The vet said there could be a number of reasons for the ulcers, and mentioned FIV.  But Piccalo has always had her vaccines!  The vet said she doesn't have much plaque or tartar and probably doesn't need a cleaning unless the sores can be 100% attributed to gingivitis.  Also, the vet decided not to do blood work that day as Piccalo was super stressed out by the visit and having her sore mouth examined.  I have now given the antibiotics for 8 days, and I will be taking her back in tomorrow to the vet, but I am worried and need good vibes and opinions, please!  She still acts tender with food and when I popped the pill in tonight, I noticed red streaks on her gums that I hadn't seen before.

Other prior medical history that may be useful: Piccalo had active Herpes as a kitten with scarring of the tear ducts, but the fluid coming from them is still the normal reddish brown.  She has lost a little bit of weight since her last checkup, but we had switched her to diet food and started feeding using a automatic feeder.  She also has "cat PTSD" (best way to describe it) because of abuse in her previous situation, but she is very well-adjusted in our home.  And finally, she was diagnosed with arthritis in her back knees and an enlarged gall bladder from an undetermined cause last year during her checkup.

Good vibes for my poor baby, please!!  And please give opinions if you have any ideas!
