But sometimes it's so frustrating that you just can't have nice things around cats!

We have an antique sideboard that Sebastian LOVES to climb.  We knew it was not that stable and try to keep him off it.

But tonight the whole top part just snapped off taking Sebastian and 2 glass candlesticks with it.

He's fine, but the candlesticks completely shattered into a million little pieces.

What a disaster.

And now we have to find a way to fix the sideboard because it has been in my husband's family forever and he loves it.

Ugh.

But I can't be mad at Sebastian for just doing what comes naturally to him.....

Sorry to hear that.  But how come the sideboard was not repaired sooner and why place breakables on something unstable in the first place?

I wouldn't know since I don't really have "nice things" anymore. All of those possessions will vanish in a heartbeat, but what I share with my cat is forever...nobody can take it away from me...ever.

I can understand the frustration. I have quite a few antique pieces from my mom's house that have been broken or ruined by the cats and dogs and it is heartbreaking. But you pick up the pieces, fix it as best you can, and move on. I inherited them complete with scratches and blemishes that were cause by love and use over the years. What's a few more made by MY family.

It is hard to not get mad at them when they use my mom's buffet as a scratching post though. I get over it, but it does take some time.

I know exactly how you feel. I can't have anything nice in my house. My cats have ruined every christmas tree I've put up. I can't stay mad at them for long, but it's very frustrating.

I have yet to decide if any Christmas decorations are going up since Kiefer will eat anything resembling string (ie the artificial tree needles, garland, etc) and Aoibhe who spent the week before Thanksgiving going to the vet because we thought she ate something she wasn't supposed to.

I would rather have the 2 of them than the decorations.  But still....

I know. Believe me, I know. It's frustrating. We've just decided that it really is the cats' house and we have to fit everything in for them. That's just the way it is. We tell people that our house is decorated in early Ameri-Cat and let it go.

But it is frustrating. Tabby has our couch pretty much shredded in places now and I hate that. We've tried everything with her and nothing is working. The couch and chair are now covered in double-sided sticky tape. I hope she grows out of that because she's pretty much ruined the furniture. Thankfully, our family all have cats and they understand. Some of our friends, though, are having issues with the tape. I don't know what else to do.

I know what you mean, I am terrified because we are getting a christmas tree this year. I know I'm going to be mad at Trout for eating/ruining/messing it up. Ugh. But I refuse to go without Christmas spirit for much longer!

I understand completely!  We have nothing sitting around on tables and such because we have one cat that will knock it off and break it if he gets mad. Our small dog is a digger and recently got in DH's leather chair and 'dug' on it while we are out so that is completely shot. It is frustrating but, at the end of the day they are what they are.

I really have to hand it to my DH for his tolerance.  We have four cats, three 7 month-old kittens and their mom.  I love them but they are wild when it's playtime!  The kittens jump on, bounce off of and play with everything.  Yesterday while I was at work the kittens played with the Christmas tree and knocked over a potted plant spilling soil all over the carpet in my daughter's room!  He sent me a couple of texts yesterday saying they were getting on his nerves but he loved me and I love them.
All he asks for in return for tolerating all these cats is that he gets at least one Rottweiler when we buy our own home in the future.

Ahh the texts. I get those from my DH when they've been bad too. He works from home so he is with them all the time. When I get a picture of a giant hole in the backyard or something crashed all over the floor, I know someone's in trouble! He loves to share their badness with me. Nothing like sitting in a very serious meeting and getting a text with cereal all over the floor. Ha!
