Tucker was a beautiful 28 year old horse that my brother got last year. He had had a hard life before we met him. He was a rodeo horse for many years. At some point he ended up with someone who just didn't care about him and Tucker was neglected for a long time. He was seized from the owners and put into the rescue system.

When my brother got him, he was skin and bones and had sores and huge bald patches all over. He really was one ugly horse when I first saw him, but he was so friendly and the kids loved him right off. With time and care, Tucker started putting on weight and his coat grew back in and he was starting to look good. However, his hoof abscess wasn't clearing up. This past year they have had the vet and the farrier to their house regularly trying to help him. Lately though, Tucker took a turn for the worse. He started losing a lot of weight and even though his hoof abscess finally cleared up, he was still foundered and had such trouble standing and walking. Two days ago, he went down. It took a long time to get him up but he wouldn't stay up. The vet recommended that the he be put down. He said he just wasn't going to get any better and would suffer if they kept trying.

Earlier this evening, Tucker was helped to cross the Rainbow Bridge. He has been buried in a little clearing in a small wooded area of my brother's property where a marker will be placed in time. The odds were against Tucker from the beginning but he did have a good year this past year and he left this world knowing that he was loved.

Run fast and free over the bridge pretty boy, with the wind in your mane, where you hurt no more.

Oh Paula, it breaks the heart to hear his story. I know there are too many. But as you say, he spent a year with lots of love, children laughing, and proper care. :heart3:

:rbheart: Run free, Tucker. :rbheart:

The insensetivity of human beings never ceases to amaze me. Then, the love and compassion of families like yours allows me hope to know there is so much compassion on the opposite end. I am sorry for the loss of Tucker. I hope he is running free and happy where he has found his peace tonight. I'm sorry for your loss.
