what outside temp. cause hypothermia?

can someone tell me at what outside temperature is

a cat in danger of hypothermia???  I need some factual

information to give to someone who is leaving their cat

outside in cold and snow. I can't seem to find an answer

on google. I know cats can get frosbite and hypothermia

and I found info. on that but not what the outside temp.

needs to be for that to happen.  I am trying to help an indoor

cat that was thrown outside to live....the people are mad at her

becuse she is having litter box problems.  I am trying to help

but before I call(yet again) the woman I want to let her know

that now her cat is in danger....not that it's just uncomfortable...but

that she is in danger.  Any one know?? thanks!!!! (the whole story is in

IMO, what you should focus on is not the potential hypothermia, but how to help them solve the peeing problem. Peeing outside the box is first and foremost usually an indication that there is a MEDICAL problem! When a cat that's been using the box starts peeing outside the box, the very first thing that needs to be done is to take the cat to the vet for a check-up. It could be an infection or an indication of pain (our cat pees outside the box when her teeth hurt. We solved that problem by getting her regular dental cleanings). She needs a check up and a urinalysis/urine culture at a minimum. If she has urine in her bladder, the vet will be able to do a needle biopsy or express her bladder. agree.gif If she doesn't have urine in her bladder, she'll need to stay at the vet until she does. Urine samples must be fresh.

To answer your question, there is no set outdoor temp at which hypothermia sets in.

Many factors contribute such as wet fur, physical health, age, etc.

 

Hypothermia sets in when a cat's body temp drops below 100.

Thanks for your replys!  I am going to have my husband go over and talk to him

and let him know he's violating MN statutes by not providing for her and offer to

take her to the vet or a shelter.  Hopefully that will help...thanks to all for your advice and replys
