Feral to Domestic cat behavior

When I first adopted one of my cats, she was half feral. I remember when she was tame enough she would let us pet her, but she would constantly kneed her paws when she stood up and never stopped until she was laying down she did it so much it looked tiresome. After 2 years she finally stopped, but I was always curious why she did this?

I have always found that kitties knead when they're content. It seems to be an instinctive behavior. I have some that knead more than others and my stomach seems to be a favorite spot to knead. rolleyes02.gif

Cats knead when they are content, but I also believe that they knead to calm themselves down.

My kitten kneads all.the.time. I have a pink blanket with a really soft inner lining and he kneads it and purrs for hours. I've also heard it's because they're content.

Wendall and Pipsqueak are my kneaders. Pipsqueak will even suck on fleece at the same time and he is five. laughing02.gif They are relaxed and happy when they do this. Wendall will knead on his plush beds before a nap.
