One of my cats has lost her appetite - she's been to the vet and checks out fine, so the vet thinks it's stress caused by a new cat, moving, and my husband (her favorite) being gone.  She's still eating every day, but losing a little weight and at 7 pounds, she just doesn't have much to lose.  She is free-fed Blue Wilderness dry supplemented by another line of canned Blue or Wellness.  She's never been a huge fan of any grain-free canned, but now is barely touching it.  Just for kicks, I gave her a can of Fancy Feast today and she sucked it down.  So now I'm torn.  On one hand, I hate cat food like this.  On the other, if it gets her to eat more...

What would you do?

After reading your post, I think it's a little bit of a different situation, but thanks.

i tried to get cynder to eat the healthy stuff too, i tried wilderness,bb wilderness wet, you name it if its healthy he won't eat it. if your worried abou her wight that bad then le ther eat "some" ff, but mix some of the high quality in it to give her both and then slowly give her more high quality and less ff.. if your not really concerned about her losing a bi of weight, she may go back o he high quality on her own. yes my situation is diffrent right now but my cat has always been picky and some one on here once told me a food is no good no matter how high quality it is if the can't won't eat it. Good luck with your kitty, and i hope she eats the "good stuff" soon.

:yeah: yep........ Transition veeeery slowly..... but if the kitty is not eating, the food is not good.

Kitty has got to eat, not matter what - rapid weight loss in a kitty is not good..... Yours is not in too much danger as it is skinny to begin with..... but it just takes longer. Lost appetite in a cat = alert.

I have a cat who is very veeeeeeery finicky. This one is Lucky - she is the one cat in the house who does not eat wet - no matter what - tried everything....... nothing.
Sometime last year she had a blockage due to hairball - and with a blockage, she had projectile vomit..... in and out... After we got her "unblocked" per se at the vet trip..... it took me 4 days of strict force feeding - 4-5 times a day....... She would not eat her food, nor the other kitties food. She was DONE. until that I went to the store and I bought a whole bunch of different foods - from the most disgusting one to a high quality one - you name it, I bought it - small bags.... Just to try. Only thing was - all hairball formulas, per the vet.
Opened them, put them inline, rolled them opened, and literally let her choose. She Chose Purina ProPlan. And that's what she's been eating to today. Not the best, but not the worst by any means - but sure beats her not eating..... and guess what - she loves it, and it does the trick.

She will go finicky from time to time - has happened in the past - it is a Royal pain. Her transitions, instead of 7-10 days, last almost a month. But when done sloooooooowly, it can be done.
For right now, she is on Proplan, and since it is doing good by her, that's what she is eating for now. I know all the theories. I can spell them backwards and forwards for you. I choose to not stress right now - she will get finicky again, and at that time, when this diet is no longer working, I will surely upgrade her. But I will solve one problem at a time, instead of breaking what ain't broken.

IMHO, the best food, is the one that our kiddos eat consistently, that works for them individually, that we can afford and fit our needs. Each cat is different - I have 4 cats in my house - 3 different diets - 3 different dry foods............. and different wet too........ With all different needs, my first priority before going insane is simply..... having them eat!

IMO you don't HAVE to go from one extreme to the other.

I don't like brussel sprouts, but that doesn't mean you have to give me pizza, heh.   My two wouldn't eat blue wilderness wet until I put it on my finger and even then it was very reluctant, and they eat almost everything.   Try a middle ground like chicken and rice Nutro Complete Care or Authority.   Its better than Fancy Feast at least, and these two wolf it down in seconds.
