So I was on Facebook just a few minutes ago, idly looking through different pictures people have posted, and I came across a picture of a dog, posted by my stepsister's boyfriend.

I've known my stepsister for almost 7 years now, and we get along great. I like her boyfriend too (even though he hasn't proposed yet and she's due with his baby in February... but anyway). He's an ex-Marine, served in Iraq, and he's always been a nice dude to me.

I didn't know that they had a dog, and I love dogs. I couldn't tell what kind of dog it was from the picture, so I commented on it:

"Hey, this is a beautiful dog!! Did the shelter you got him from tell you what kind he was?"

Innocuous, right? And he replies,

"Yeah, he's a full blooded pit bull. My friend who breeds them on the side gave him to me."

Okay, cool. While holding my tongue about backyard breeders, I reply,

"Oh I see. I just love brindle dogs!! :) I didn't recognize him without the clipped ears you usually see on pit bulls. But I'm glad you haven't done his."

And then his friend, who I have never met, says:

"Hahaha, as if you could ever mistake him for a shelter dog. He's too good for that $#%^"

And boyfriend replies

"Yeah haha!"

Why are dogs from shelters undesirable? How can some people just dismiss shelter dogs as inferior to non-shelter dogs? What the heck. this whole interchange just makes me upset. :cringe:

The dumb thing is, I adopted Kramer from my stepsister (who is dating this guy), and he was a shelter cat. But they obviously didn't care about him and persuaded me to adopt him. Their loss -- he is a huge snugglebucket. :)

But anyway... some people's attitude about animals is appalling to me.

Hi Katie :). Well, I guess he never has been to a shelter because they are overloaded with beautiful pure bred Pits. Brindles galore too. So tell him to put that in his pipe and smoke it :lol3: :smokin: :wavey:

He's a moron and I would put money down that the dog isn't neutered either. Morons

His friend is probably the BYB that he got the dog from.

I'm with Lauren.  An old frined of mine rented a room from a couple that had 2 pits.  Both were purebread and rescued from a shelter/group that works with just pits if I'm correct.  I only met the older one (they hadn't adopted the 2nd yet) but she was a sweetie.  She had a special bond with my friend's kitten.
