Vibes for Loki

Thread Starter

My poor little guy isn't doing very well. This morning he threw up his dinner from the night before...wasn't digested. He also pooped on the mat next to the vomit. He looked really embarrassed and tried to cover it up. He has no interest in food. Drinking lots of water and while I was at work he threw up at least 5 times that I could find. Mostly just watery looking but it's hard to tell since it's all dried up.

Last night he was his normal spunky self but today he looks sick and is not himself. I called the vet and they're trying to fit me in tonight. My poor kitty. I'm so worried bawling.gif

Loki is spending the night at the vet's. Gosh that hurt so bad leaving him there! I cried most of the way home. The xray didn't show anything...the vet wasn't sure what to think.

Loki is home now. The vet couldn't give me an answer though. He said he was a bit constipated so I need to keep an eye on that. He would not eat at the vet clinic so it has now been over 24 hours since that boy ate anything. They did say he was drinking and gave him SC fluids as well.

The follow-up xray showed his bowels looking better. My gut tells me that it was a hairball/constipation. Thinking back I have been finding small, hard stool in the litter box. No good poop in there. Isis is still having some soft stool from the switch to wet...part dry just wasn't working :(

I'm at work now. He did show some interest in food when he got home and had a couple bites. I'll check when I get back in a few hours. I'm just glad to have him home!

Also the vet thinks he has a food allergy...sigh.

Glad Loki is back home smile.gif. Try adding more fiber to his diet is he has really rock-hard poops. Pipsqueak had that over the summer and I added 1/4 tsp. of Metamucil powder to one wet meal a day and he returned to normal bowel movements. You could also try canned Pumpkin - not the kind with the spice - just plain. I am sure he will eat by the time you get home cross.gif He is just recovering from his overnight stay and was still stressed when he got home. vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif

Jamie was prone to constipation now and then, and the vet suggested giving him a little bit of whipping cream every day. I put about half a teaspoon of it in some cat milk, and he hasn't had problems since.

Loki didn't eat while I was at work sigh.gif

He did have a few good bites of fresh food when I got home though...but really not much appetite. Poor guy

You might ask your vet for something to settle his stomach.  Sometimes when they've not eaten, they'll develop indigestion.  We used to give Callie pepcid.  She was also prone to constipation, so we added plain canned pumpkin to her wet food every feeding to help her.  It worked well.  We also tried giving her plain Metamucil, which worked well also.

Updates on Mr. Loki. He's doing better. I found one very long poop the other morning and assumed it was his because it wasn't buried and Isis is a fastidious buryer. I thought he'd be feeling great after that but not much has changed. sigh.gif He's still pretty out of it and spends most of his time sleeping. I think he's quite stressed ever since Isis has shown up. He walks very slowly and seems on edge just waiting for her to attack him. I try to give him alone time by locking her up when I'm not home or if she is particularly aggressive.

I think the constipation is ok now. He has had at least one softer poop. His appetite is still off but if I keep bringing him back to the food he eats most of it.

I need to get more duck food, down to one can. Living out in the middle of nowhere is great for that doh3.gif and I'm going to get at least one more feliway diffuser.

Need some vibes that the kitties will start eating normally soon.

PS I'll also look into the pumpkin or metamucil.

My poor guy! He's eating really well but today started vomiting again. It seems to come on very fast. He threw-up mid jump and landed in it and tonight he woke up and immediately puked again. It's very odd and I'm not sure what to think. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Poor baby, I don't know maybe he just has some gastritis and when he feels better he eats a lot but his stomach is not ready for it. Why don't you try giving him less food at a time and starting ony by wet food? maybe slowly he will control this vomiting. I hope it helps!

Lots of love and good energy for your angel boy!

I'm wondering if it's more of a stomach acid issue...not that I know anything about this lol! He seems quite content minus the throwing up yesterday. Both events happened while he was sleeping...he woke up then threw-up and this was 3-4 hours after eating each time. The vomit was mostly watery with some food and hair. Not a lot of retching. I'm feeling very very guilty about all of this because he never threw up in the 6 months he lived with my bf eating a very grain-ful dry kibble (whiskas and BB weight management). After all of this research and spending a lot of money getting him the best food I could...he gets sick. I feel terrible about it.
