Help?! Cant find a reason for this :(

Hey there, I'm just new here. I have a, just turned 1, all black kitty Teckle.

When we first got him at 3 months he wasn't allowed in the bedrooms at all, but now at night I leave the door open for him. However, now he tends to spend maybe an hour getting nice scratches and sleeping at the bottom of my bed, but then he shall get up and go and sit outside my open bedroom door and yowl crazy loud. When I get up to see him he'll run towards me and rub his head on me, and if I go back to bed he'll do it again, it continues all night, until I eventually I fall asleep. I don't really know what is going on in his head, and I've tried looking it up but nothing seems to be the same. I was wondering if anyone knew why he was doing it and why?

Thanks C

I found that my cat had bad bedtime behaviours if I give him love at night. I play with them before bed, give them a treat then ignore them. Eventually my little male comes and sleeps on the end of the bed. He also has the habit of meowing loudly when he can't see me. I just answer him and he stops. I don't know if this is at all similar, but maybe it can help you. My guess is he wants more attention when you're trying to sleep

Is he neutered? Unneutered males will "call" for females and it can get pretty loud.

If he is neutered and gets plenty of exercise, he might be doing it just to make you get up and pay attention to him. Sort of a hide-and-seek kind of thing. If you ignore him entirely the behavior should decrease.

Did he yowl when he was shut out of the room initially, or is this a new behavior that started after he was allowed in at night?

You could try having a nice play session with him just before bedtime, so he is tired and more likely to want a nap. Also, I do the same thing Lokilove does by calling my kitten's name when he wakes me up meowing at night, and he'll usually come jump on my bed, get some quick pets, and curl up to sleep.

If it ends up being him wanting more attention, your best bet would be to ignore him, or the behavior will continue and you won't get a peaceful sleep.

He is unneutered just now. We're planning to get him neutered next week, will it stop then? If that is what it is?

It could very well be why he's howling. He's right at that age he wants to find a girl, so he has to call to her. It can take a while for the hormones to clear his system, so don't expect an immediate change, but if he is howling for a female neutering should help.
