hello everybody... i have 3 cats who i love dearly, 2 of the 3 are sisters, and they are the 2 with the problem.. ive had em since they were kittens, they are now almost 4... sassy is the runt and is spayed, stasia is the more shy one and isnt spayed... The problem with them is that they use the bed and laundry as there litter box, its gotten so bad that we are washing blankets every other day.. we have been covering the bed with whatever we can find to try and protect it but they keep doing it... its mostly stasia but we have caught sassy doing it too.... there litter box is an open one, we change it once a week, but even with a fresh box they still use the bed, they use the litter box too..... ive used coverd boxes too with the same results... we have tried corn cob litter, clay, news paper pellets.... we have come to the end of the rope, i dont know what to do anymore i love em to death but we cant keep up with their behavior.... anybody have any experences with this problem???? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Why isn't Stasia spayed? I would recommend doing that first, as a cat in heat will pee everywhere to attract males, and this can entice another cat to pee there, too.

Do you only have the one litterbox? For 3 cats, ideally, you should have 4 litterboxes. Even if that's not possible, you should have at least 2 large boxes. How often do you scoop the box out? That should be done at least once a day. Most cats like unscented scooping clay litter best. Cat Attract liitter would be a good idea, too.

I would also lock them out of the bedroom. At least they wouldn't be able to go on the bed.

Inappropriate urinating is a relatively common problem, and we have some articles for those experiencing it.

Inappropriate Peeing Problems Answered
How To Remove Cat Urine

The thing that stood out when I read your post is that Stasia isn't spayed. That's almost certainly the root of your problem, as cats that aren't spayed or neutered will mark their territory with urine, and once that starts they and other cats will continue to urinate in those spots. Is there a reason why her sister has been spayed, and she hasn't? Has your third cat also been "fixed"?

In addition to getting Stasia spayed asap, you have to make sure that all traces of urine are removed using enzymatic cleaners as per the above article. Ordinary laundering won't be enough.

How many litterboxes do you have? The rule of thumb is one per cat, plus an extra.

Seconding my collegues, I want to add one practical tip:  Cover the beds with plastic sheets, till everything is OK.

I don't know where you live, but if you PM me your location, I'm happy to help search to see if there's a low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

First and foremost the cats that are not spayed need to be. If it's only Stasia, then she needs to be for the reasons mentioned above.

You also need to have more than one litter box. Even just adding a second one will help. I would invest in Cat Attract litter once Stasia's home from being spayed, and while you're cleaning up your home of cat pee scent.

The scent of pee outside the box encourages the cats to continue peeing outside the box, so properly cleaning up ALL the cat pee is absolutely essential to stopping the problem.

You need to get a black light to go through your home to locate all the pee spots, and then they need to be properly cleaned. Jcat provided a link that explains how to properly remove cat urine.

And as Stefan pointed out, denial of access to favorite peeing spots will help the process.
