Thanksgiving Obligations

Anyone else being forced into spending your Thanksgiving for the purpose of social networking/business rather than relaxing with family that you actually care to be around?

Ugh... This is what it must feel like to have the dreaded in-laws over for the holidays!  laughing02.gif

Just remember to keep those pearly whites showing through that fake smile.   BTW, I'm trying to get creative on an exit-strategy excuse that isn't too obvious, so I don't have to stay long if it drags on.   Hmmmm...

I had to leave a teachers' meeting early in order to be able to give Jamie his pills on schedule. It was a real reason rather than an excuse, but perhaps you could try that?

My fave excuse to to tell them I have to leave early to neuter someone. Gulps all around! laughing02.gif (I'm just joking. but I could not resist!)

Normally it is just my kids and cats for Thanksgiving.  The ex had no where to go so I invited him over.  Now that means I have to get semi-dressed up.  I would be happy to cook for our little family in my jammies.

Ugh I feel  your pain...I have two such events coming up, though thankfully not on thanksgiving day. There is something about stupid social networking events that turns me off, I guess it's just my personality- I am not good at faking it and making it seem like I'm interested in a topic of conversation when I'm really not...so I either end up emotionally drained in the end at having to put so much effort into nodding, looking interested, smiling, and not having an ADD moment during a conversation, or I end up not talking much (because I simply don't care in what they have to say and they catch on and leave me alone quick) and I don't make a good impression at all...

I am the queen of making excuses and getting out, although I find that if I have an exit strategy already planned im already thinking about leaving and it sets the mood for my evening ...

Thanksgiving used to be ONLY business, for many years. We just froze the smiles, and entertained. Gary always was the one making thanksgiving dinner at customer's homes. We did THREE Thanksgivings one year (had to prep two turkies in advance). Exit strategy was always... well, we have to go do the family thanksgiving now... that always got "understanding" pats on the back and good wishes. (Sorry, little late with the suggestion LOL)
