We found THE car over the weekend....well, almost. Went to the bank last night and signed the papers; we didn't finance through the car dealer.

So.....we went to a dealer on Saturday and they gave us a great deal on the Tucson; their offer was better than anything we had found anywhere. The only problem was that they didn't have the car in Garnet Red. They had a gorgeous (well, to me, anyway) Tucson in Graphite Grey and that would have been my second choice. It had everything in it that I wanted, including the remote starter.

The salesman said he'd check with other dealers. (Evidently, you can't order a car from Hyundai; they just check in with other dealers for the vehicle you want.) They found a red Tucson Limited AWD with the package (panoramic sunroof, nav screen, etc), but it didn't have the remote starter. No problem, they could bring the car in and install the starter....and they said that would be at no extra cost. We made plans to go down tonight (Wednesday) to pick up the car.

Except, the salesman didn't get to work right away yesterday (a family emergency....and that's ok, things happen). But when he got to work last night, the other dealer had never called back to confirm that they still had the red Tucson. The salesman will call today to find out what's going on. But now with the holiday, it will probably be next Monday before we can bring the new car home. Darn it.

But really, that's OK, too, I guess. I'm just a little impatient.

We didn't trade Clarence in. Rick said he just didn't have the heart to do that to me.
Clarence wouldn't have been worth much as a trade-in anyway, not at this point. So we'll keep him.

And the Tuscon? Her name will be Hannah.
She become Hannah right from the first moment I test-drove her the first time.

Pam, lots of luck with the new car.   Good things are worth waiting for.

And I'm glad you are keeping Clarence.  You know how I get attached to things and hate to give them up.

Our new Altima is grey (Paul still calls it Graphite Grey, because the first Honda we had was that color) --- they have some fancy new name for the color, but he always refers to it as Graphite Grey.

Hyundai gives a great warranty.

Hannah?  I thought you'd name her Ruby or Ellen or something, you being a Supernatural fan and all
.  Too bad you will have to wait for it.

My parents had some drama when they bought their Santa Fe earlier this year.  The had it shipped over from the factory, and I guess when the dealership got it, they didn't look at it too closely.  When they were about to put the undercoating on, they noticed it had $3500 of damage from shipping.  So it was delayed for another 2 weeks while they fixed it.  How do you miss that much damage?

Oh poor Clarence is being retired! I hope he gets out for some exercise every once in a while. It broke our hearts when we had to give up Saabi. Poor thing had a lot of genetic defects right from the start, and after they put in the fourth FREE transmission, when the something-or-other-thing-a-ma-bobber went, the dealership simply refused to replace it. They said we'd be wasting the $4,000 it would take to do it. That was in the day when we HAD $4,000 to do it.... but we listened to them. But it broke our hearts!

(BTW, the RV is Holly).

I can't wait for Hannah to arrive! I'm sorry things didn't work out for her to spend the holiday with you, but I'm sure the wait will be worth it!

I, too, am having 'new car' issues at the moment, upgrading to the Mitsubishi Challenger 30th Anniversary Edition, since I enjoy country trips and the like, the 4WD capabilities were perfect, the size is exactly the same, plus it has some cool new features and functions. We decided to install a tow bar, bull bar and get window tinting, like we have on the car we have now. They promised it wouldn't take long, we get regular calls from them, although they only ordered the bull bar on Monday, it hasn't even arrived yet, we were told we would be getting the car early this week, it turns out it will either be Friday of this week, or Monday of next :lol3: Sorry to hijack the thread!

Congratulations on the new car, hopefully the issues will be over fast!

Thanks, guys! And it's nice to know that I'm not the only one having some issues with the new car!

Tiger, do your parents like their Santa Fe, even though there were issues with it? Are they happy with it? My GF has a Santa Fe and she says it's the best car she's ever had.....she'll be new car hunting in the spring, but she may just buy another Santa Fe. You know, I didn't even think about Ruby or Ellen!
At the first test-drive, I put the key in the ignition, turned the car on, and she became Hannah right from the get-go.
And she's been Hannah ever since.

That's what happened with Clarence, too. The Cruiser's name was Clarence from the very first time we brought him home. (And, you know, when I make appointments for his maintenance and such, I call the garage and tell them that Clarence needs to have his tires rotated or Clarence needs his oil changed, etc. When the garage calls me to tell me that he's ready to go home, they'll say, "Hey, Pam, Clarence is finished!"
Obviously we've been dealing with same garage for years now and we know all the guys there. I guess we're all a little crazy around here.)

We're going out this weekend to buy poor Clarence a tarp to cover him. We'll have to drive him when the weather is nice enough....not snowing or anything. I don't think he'll be too jealous.

Holly! I love it!

The salesman called last night. The other dealer did have a Tucson in Garnet Red and they're going to pick it up on Friday. They'll install the remote starter on Saturday and we can go down Monday to bring Hannah home. Rick has off work on Monday; I may leave work at noon, so we can go down in the afternoon instead of waiting until 4:00 when it's getting dark to bring her home.

Thats awesome about the new car...I hope you got it from SM...wink wink haha Im just a bit biased when it comes to dealerships....LOL

Remote starter....SO JEALOUS! I have been begging for one of those forever but Df keeps saying no way jose..LOL I hope you post a pic of Hannah when you get her. Also..Ollies has car covers there. They are like 18-20 bucks for an actual car cover. We got some there for Dfs dads Cuda and Dfs F-100. Those car covers are holding up really nicely. Both are under shelter but the one is still pretty exposed to the elements and is doing good.

Pam, we bought a Hyundai Tucson in July.  We'd had nothing but Honda's since 1979, but Dave wanted something in the same price range that had more bells and whistles.  (btw, we bought a red one, too)

We've been thru the "call another dealer to see if they have the car you want" as well, several times with the Honda dealer (who is also the Hyundai dealer).  We like the car, Dave loves the GPS, I never use it.

No problems, but then again, we've only had it 4 months.  I will say this: I don't think it's the car a Honda is. I'm sure it will be a good car for us, tho;  Oh, and while my car has been Abigail since the first day, I never name Dave's cars---I would get too attached if I did.

Good luck with Hannah! (which also happens to be the name of my all black kitty)

Actually, Tyler, SM didn't seem to want to work with us. They gave us a very high price and they didn't want to reconsider. They were insistent on my writing a down payment right then and there last Saturday morning and I wasn't ready. They didn't have the car I wanted anyway. We left there and went down to Harrisburg....to Freysinger, actually in Mechanicsburg. They were wonderful and we're buying the car from there.

Abigail! I love it! Abigail is a neat name; you know, that would be a good name for a cat, too. I'm glad you like your Tucson. While the Hyundai isn't like the Honda, I didn't really like the looks of the CRV....it reminded me a lot of a small minivan, I guess. And even the CRV Limited seemed to be pretty "bare bones" to me. I wanted a few bells and whistles. While we probably won't use the GPS all the time, it's nice to have. There are times when we use our small GPS when we're going some where we're not sure of. It just makes it a little nicer. I'm looking forward to Sirius radio, too. I wasn't sure of the color really, until I saw a red Tucson GL on the lot....it's such a pretty color. And I like red, always have; several of my cars have been red. Hannah is also the name of one of my SIL's cats.

That's great!
Congrats on adding Hannah to your car family.
Thanks! The salesman called tonight to say that Hannah is at there now and will have her starter installed Saturday afternoon.

Ughh thats just one thing I do not like about SM. Some of their sales people are complete dbags. Df is very particular about who he deals with there...lol generally we go straight to the top since we know the owner but my step dad actually went to them about trading in his car on a new car and the one guy lowballed him on the trade in value...after df went over the car from head to toe and gave him an amount he shoudnt accept less than. There is a reason that car salesmen have a bad rep..they only see the bottom line and its their bottom line. Its kind one of the reasons when we buy cars we pay cash and buy used....that and we dont want a car payment. LOL

I cant wait to see a pic of Hannah!!!!!! I bet your gonna LOVE driving your new hotrod around :)

Hannah came home last night! Til we got home, it was dark, so hopefully I can get some pictures of her this afternoon.

I'm excited. It took forever to get through all the manuals at the dealership....they certainly want to make sure you understand your car before you ever drive it off the lot! After we were done with the manuals, we went out to the car and went through my Droid X and they set up all my contacts through Hannah; on the way home, I pushed a button on my steering wheel, said "Call Sandy" (my sister) and she and I chatted for awhile as I drove home. That's really nice; I like being hands-free. I have to set up Rick's Droid X now, so that when he drives Hannah, he'll be able to use his phone contacts, too. (Now, when I first start Hannah up, my phone "Droids" to let me know that everything is in sync.) Rick really likes that because he can call for pizza when he's driving Hannah without using his cell phone.
 )

My iPod is also hooked in, so I can listen to that when I'm driving. Love the nav system....we have Home set up already, so I can always find my way home.
It's really easy to program. It's pretty up-to-date, too; when I was coming home last night, I was following Rick in his truck, but it showed me exactly where I was all the time. The rear-view camera is neat, although I wouldn't use it solely for backing up....I like using my mirrors better.

Rick loves Sirius....I usually listen to CDs, but he has always wanted Sirius. We have it free for three months and then we'll decide if we want to keep it. And I am going to love the remote starter!  I always keep my cars for at least ten years, so I wanted something that I would be happy with for a long time.

She sounds like a dream.     Good luck with Hannah and send us some pictures.     We also keep cars for a long time.   Our first Honda was 16 years old when we gave it up and we had our '99 for 11 years.

Now  you can drive her to Florida to go on a cruise --- right?
