I'm taking Kimiko to the vet as soon as it opens in 3 1/2 hours, but I am hoping to get some fast help now!

She's a young kitten I found a little less than a week ago. She's been doing all right until today. When I went to pick her up, she had hard green crusty gunk sealing both of her eyes shut! I thought that was all, and figured I'd take her to the vet to get a possible eye infection checked out. The problem is, now, in my arms, she randomly meows, and it's this raspy, plaintive meow. I'm hoping she just has a cold!

Has anyone else experienced this, and what can I do to help her?

Thanks guys!

I trust you've had her to the vet now.

Young kittens can crash very fast, and it sound like your kitten is experiencing that.  Their immune systems and organs aren't very well developed yet, and anything that stresses them can be too much.

Please let us know how she did at the vet.

Kimiko is very sick. The vet wants to do a feline leukemia test (which I can't afford until payday), so that has to wait until next week. Until then she's being kept in the back bathroom.

She's underweight, jaundiced, anemic and has a heart murmur and an upper respiratory infection. The vet gave her a shot of pennicillin, to combat the infection, and a diet to put her on. We're gonna pray, and take her back as soon as I get paid for the test.

If the test is positive, the vet said I should put her to sleep :(

If it's negative, she's still very sick, and is going to need lots of love and care.

Right now she's sleeping. I offered her a raw chopped up chicken liver (vet's recommendation) and she refused it. She's a little upset that I wont let her come cuddle out here with the rest of us.

I hope you get some good news - this little baby is blessed to have your love and warmth, no matter how what happens.

Thanks for your hopes and wishes everyone. Sadly, Kimiko passed away in her sleep last night.

I am so sorry - I know it doesn't help right now, but remember that you gave her a home and love, even if she was here too short a time.  She knew she was loved....bless you for doing that for her.

So sorry to hear this.

My bet would be feline distemper, judging by the sudden onset, etc.

I'm very sorry to hear that you've lost your little Kimiko. RIP, little one.

You may want to start a thread about her in the Crossing the Bridge forum when you feel up to it. I'll close this thread now.
