A black kitten had been hanging around our doorstep for the past few days, as it became colder outside. We finally caught her on Monday, to find she is not much more than a bag of bones with frostbite on her one ear. We have her socialized now and I have been feeding her small helpings of Wellness kitten formula pate every 2-3 hrs. She is a very happy little kitty the only problem being her diarrhea. The first two poops she had while in our care were solid but since about yesterday afternoon the rest have been very runny. Am I feeding her the wrong thing? If so, what should I be switching her to? She has water available at all times and I have seen her drink plenty. I really want to put some weight on this little girl and maybe hopefully keep her. Please! Any suggestions. I have never rescued a cat or kitten before and I want to do this right. (I am unsure of her age but she is at the most maybe 4 months??)

AW what a lucky baby to have found you :hugs:... I would definitely take the kitten to a vet . Not uncommon for the diarrhea to start - it is brand new food. She probably has worms too and that is contributing to her weight issue. She sounds like a love :heart3:. A vet visit is in order and then I think you will be on your way to a healthier baby kitten :wavey::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thank you SO much for rescuing her.  No doubt with the cold(er) weather coming, she probably wouldn't have survived much longer.

Any change in food can cause runny stools, though I'd say it's a given she has worms.  The vet should get a stool sample and test it for specific worms and parasites, not all of which are killed by Revolution or similar deworming agent (like hookworm and giardia).  I'd also ask the vet if he thinks an antibiotic for a cold would be appropriate.  A kitten can develop a cold because of stress, but it takes a couple of days to manifest itself.  Get her ears checked/tested too for ear mites/infection, also common if the cat has been living outside for a while.

Meanwhile:  enjoy and love love love your new kitty :)
