house guests and upset cat

One of my cats, I think it was Cooper ( the orange one) pee'd on the blow up mattress my parents brought with them. My parents don't have any pets so I don't think it's a reaction to another pets smell. The kitties were in the bedroom sniffing and exploring my parents stuff and were startled when my parents came in the room and ran out. They've never met them before as they live out of state and haven't visited since I got the kitties.

Any ideas?

I am keeping the cats in my bedroom tonight since the room my folks are sleeping in doesn't have a secure door.

Cats can do random things due to smells. It may be the smell of your parents -- it may be some smell on the mattress. Does your cat react well to strangers? My cat growing up never had litterbox issues, but I bought a brand new pair of jeans one day and sat them on my bed, and he peed right on them. doh3.gif Try to clean it with Nature's Miracle, keep a sheet on the air mattress, and maybe keep them out of the room unless supervised.

He has been very curious about the fact that they are still here, and what their stuff is in the room they are staying in. The kitties are only about 7-8 months and don't have a lot of experience with strangers since we just moved and don't know anyone here. He has been fine with checking them out and letting them pet him. My dogs have been really excited though too.
