Foster kitten Amelia needs those vibes.

Hello all,

Yesterday we took in 3 new foster kittens (yeah, I know, after questioning if I would even continue fostering.) and this morning I noticed that one of them, a little dilute torbie named Amelia, has a very large open wound on her lower stomach. sniffle.gif I only noticed it this morning because she was a little shy spending most of the time in her crate last night and I didn't want to bother her. This morning when I went to feed them all and clean litter boxes, she was being cute and playing. She then stopped to lick her tummy and that's when I noticed the wound!

It is quite large, open and wet although not full of pus or gooey and it looks to me like it has been there some time. Amelia is approx. 9-10 weeks old, and I am thinking a possible umbilical hernia although I am not sure. It doesn't seem to bother her terribly but obviously needs vet care ASAP. I was able to get the shelter manager to get us a vet appointment for this afternoon, so please keep her in your thoughts and send those vibes! heartpump.gif

Awww, poor baby!  So glad she's in your care.  Hope all goes well with the vet visit.

Hi Kailie smile.gif!!!! I am sure little Amelia will be fine and get all fixed up after her vet visit. Sounds to me like an umbilical hernia and she probably has had this for some time. Should be very easy to fix and heal up. I had a cat that had something like that once, a kitten too. If it is that, they will just need to close up the hole so she might need a simple surgery. Very common agree.gif Loads of vibes for sweet little Amelia today vibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gifvibes.gif

p.s. AND of course you are still fostering - you heart would not allow anything else hugs.gifhugs.gifhugs.gifhugs.gifhugs.gifheartpump.gif Those kitties need you and Dana deg.gif

Thanks girls!

Well she's at the vet and will be having surgery to suture it either this evening or first thing in the morning. It's not an umbilical hernia as it is too far down, quite close to her "lady parts". The vet believes it was either a bad bite that abscessed and opened or she got caught on something and got torn open. bawling.gif Either way, the vet said it is not a fresh wound, so who knows how long she has been dealing with this injury. Thank goodness she'll now be fixed up. heartpump.gif

Poor girly :(

So glad she is getting fixed up!  She'll be good as new in no time hearthrob.gif

The kittens are the reason for the fostering, not the people so I can see why you gave in.

I hope Amelia comes through the surgery with flying colors.

No, they don't do early spays around here at all unfortunately, not until they are at least 4 pounds. I just spoke with the vet and she said she had to use a very small amount of sedation to suture her up, because she was worried about putting one so small under, so that's good! heartpump.gif She said she did very well and can go home this evening. She is going to have to wear a cone for about a week and be on antibiotics but she should be just fine. She'll go back on Friday for a check-up to see how she's healing up. Thanks for all the vibes! clap.gif
