Help! I know we have the what are you reading thread but I need suggestions for funny books! I need laughter! Lately everything I've been reading is really depressing I don't know why that happens some times, but I need something funny to read, help! I need to laugh out loud! A lot!

(not Stephanie Plum. She and her cohorts annoy me rather than amuse me laughing02.gif )

The Myth series by Robert Lynn Asprin. A complete rip-off and farce of science fiction and fantasy novels, and an absolute riot to read. The story is told by Skeeve, a very naive human from the Dimention Klahd and tells of his adventures with his partner Aahz, a Pervect from Perv, the brother and sister act of Chumley and Tanada, a troll and a trollop (both green in colour) and Skeeve's dragon Gleep. . .

The James Herriot collected works, beginning with All Creatures Great and Small.

The Xanth "Trilogy" by Piers Anthony - a whole series based around mostly puns. I think there are aroud 20 books in the trilogy now. The first book is A Spell for Chameleon.

Anything by Dave Barry.

And if you don't mind religious satire, this. http://www.amazon.com/Lamb-Gospel-According-Christs-Childhood/dp/0380813815 I read it in high school and disrupted class nearly every day for a week with snorting laughter.

Anything else by that author, Christopher Moore, is going to be funny too.

I highly recommend David Sedaris. He has quite a few books and they are all hysterical! This would be a good time to bring out his Holidays on Ice. One word of caution, he talks about openly about life, his books are not lewd but there are no sacred cows if you know what I mean. David Sedaris is the brother of Amy Sedaris; they must have had a pretty weird childhood.
