In a heartbeat I would get my guys insured if I were you, and fast. You are so lucky to have 12 yr olds with no health issues.... but they will come.... and when they come, I would want to be covered... at that time, in a senior, you can be dealing with a chronic issue.
I have insurance for my 3 younger ones - they got insured the day they stepped feet in the house, thank goodness, it has saved me.
The elderly one, Gracie, is a new addition to the house, rescued last year - she is 13, and has thyroid issues. For that alone, only one company will insure her, and will not cover her thyroid, or anything at all that is related, or caused by it - which in the end, can be anything that she has. If I could insure her.... Boy would I do it!
Vet bills can get very expensive.... Issues can come up on the thousands that can put you against the wall if you don't have the $$$ - I have seen plenty of people having to make the dreaded decision of choosing euthanasia for lack of funds. Knock on woods, I don't ever want to be on that position....

Pets Best insurance, and I have used plenty - for my three, in all different circumstances. They never failed me - not once. I am certain they are responsible for Bugsy being alive - I could not done it alone. They have a fantastic customer service, just outstanding, and they pay super fast.
