I know this is probably a strange time of year to bring this up but does anyone get sick due to heat easily?  I seem to be the only person that I know that 72 degrees can make them sick under the right circumstances, usually if I'm cleaning or working.

In anykind of heat, I mean 80 and up, I can only be outside for a few minutes before I absolutely feel sick.  My head starts to spin, my mouth gets that strange foamy feeling, my chest tightens up and I pretty much feel like I'm dying. The only exception is if I'm submerged in water but even during the summer I hardly ever have time to go to the pool..mainly because of budget but also the only pool nearby is a waterpark and that is tooo noisy and crowded for my space. Plus I have a small allergy to clorine which causes me to sneeze up a storm and causes splotchy marks on my skin.  I love the lake but sadly the closest lake is super super muddy  and is overall not a lake that one wants to swim in.

I know that the amount of water could be part of the blame but during the summer somtimes I can almost drink 2 gallons of water by myself a day but I still feel sick so it can't be all the blame.

One thing good about being so sensitive to the heat I have learned some tips that I can pass on to others who seem to be suffering. Many of my tricks I have picked up from animals but they work all the same.   Here are some of the more useful ones that I have picked up over the years. Most of them help due to the same process but they're all a little different to be usefully in different situations.

1) form a small O shape with your lips (as if you're going to whistle) then inhale through your mouth slowly, allowing the cool air to hit your tongue. You have a lot of blood that passes through your tongue so when you cool your tongue down, you also cool the blood that travels through it. That cooler blood then travels through your body helping your body to cool down.   A creature that is much MUCH more effecient at this is the dog. That's why they pant. They have much larger tongues then we do so they are more effecient at it but it still helps.  You can also do this with cool water or by holding an ice cube in your mouth if you have those things handy.

2) Find your pulse on your neck and then hold a cool bottle of water/pop or anything that is cooler than you to it. Same idea as the tongue. The cool object pressed against your neck where your pulse is cools the blood and that blood moves through your body cooling you down.

3) Lets say all you have is a cooler that has no more drinks in it and due to people putting their hands in the cooler all day, you don't want to stick the ice in your mouth. Well put your fingers in the cold water grab a peice of ice and touch it to the insides of your wrists (where you can see all the veins) You can also do the same to other areas such has the insides of your elbows, your throat, the back of your neck and even your temples.   You can also wet your hands with the cold water and draw long flowing lines on your face, this not only helps cool you down, but the motion is very calming and it helps you relax which can also help cool you down.

You can even combine them and do them all at the same time which helps even more.  I know this last summer I was at one of my boyfriend's little sister's soccer game. It was incredibly hot and I was suffering, there was a girl on her team that had to sit out because she looked like she was going to pass out. She looked aweful and all her parents did was offer her a bottle of water to drink, she was too sick feeling to even bring it to her lips so I asked if I could try something that always helped me so I took the water from her and held it to her neck and told her to breathe in slowly through her mouth and it helped her soo much. It only took a few moments for her to relax and start being able to drink some water.  I know it could of been that she started feeling better just because she was sitting down but I'd like to think that my method helped, she said it did but it could have been just a mental thing just the fact that I actually had her do something that I said would help instead of just offering her water to drink kind of like the sugar pill trick where you give someone a sugar pill saying its something like a sleeping pill and then they get tired and fall asleep as if it was.

I used to get sick from the heat when I was a kid.  I remember my mom having to give me cool baths in the middle of the night in the summer.  I would feel awful and eventually throw up.

I still don't like to get hot; but I can tollerate it much better.  It can get pretty hot here; and humid.  And my Mom and step-dad didn't like to use the AC when i was a teenager even though we had it.  DH likes the air on so it's not a big problem anymore.

my family (my dad epecially) was the same way.  My dad always kept the thermostat at a temp that made it barely survivable...sadly the vents in my bedroom didn't work so my room was always the same temp as it was outdoors...109 degrees outside? That's how hot my room was unless my room was in the shade...which doesn't happen often during the summer. Plus the humidity gets trapped in my room which made it even harder to bare.  My dad finally got me a cheap window a/c unit for my room which finally made my room livable in the summer. I agreed to try to tough out summer as long as a could and when I did have it on, I usually kept it off when I had to go to work and then turned it back on when I was home.  Winter worked the same temp-wise but the opposite, (cold outsite/cold inside) thankfully I can survive cold better than heat. I always just piled the blankets on and I was as snug as a bug in a rug.  During the winter I would always have 4-5 blankets on. A sheet, a thermal blanket, afgan#1, a feather comforter, and finally another afgan soo I stayed nice and comfy during the winter.

Now I live in an apartment so I can set the thermostat where I want. Of course since I'm cheap I'll probably do the same as my dad did but at least the vents in my bedroom work. So far this season we don't need the a/c running at all and there's only been a few nights where I had to turn on the heater but even then I usually ended turning it off once the apartment warmed up.
